Goal
editWhile promoting contributions on Wikisource from the universities and national libraries clientele while we'll be presenting the project itself and hold "source-a-thon" events in these places, we want to achieve high community building, having people that are proud to contribute and show it to others, wich will bring more and more people to the next scheduled events and awareness of the Wikisource project.
Distributing Wikisource logo'ed T-Shirts and buttons with the phrase "JE CONTRIBUE!" (French for I contribute!) as a public statement will bring the population to learn about this wide project that unfortunately nobody knows.
New registered users will receive a Wikisource button to show their involvement in the project. Users with their first 20+ edits a month will receive a Wikisource "JE CONTRIBUE!" t-shirt to encourage them in pursuing their contributions to the projet and we'll be giving 3-months, 6-months and 1-year achievement certificates for maintaining 20+ edits a month, simple measures to show public recognition of their involvement.
Plan

- "Source"-a-thon events in colleges, universities and public library to assist beginners and attract more interested contributors

- Conference to directors of the archives and attendees

- The cultural comity of the City Council is actually is discussion to add monthly events for the city population.

- One of the oldest private college in Quebec is reviewing our offer to make monthly events for their sudents in extra-scholar activity (history, french litterature & theatre)
Discussions being conducted for introduction events and edit labs
editWikimedia Canada is actually making contacts with other universities, colleges and historical organisations throughout the province (and in New Brunswick as well who have an important French population) to host events like these too. As soon as they're confirmed, they will be added.
Impact
editTarget readership
editThis awareness campaing and promoting contributions on Wikisource is primarily intended for college and university students and national and public library clientele at the beginning.
Fit with strategy
editWhat crucial thing will the project try to change or benefit in the Wikimedia movement? Please select the Wikimedia strategic priority(ies) that your project most directly aims to impact and explain how your project fits. Most projects fit all strategic priorites. However, we would like project managers to focus their efforts on impacting 1-2 strategic priorities. Examples of strategic priorities can be found at here.
- Presentations, conferences in Montréal's universities, public libraries, national archives, with students and professors in archiving, archivists
- Source-a-thon where we can support new contributors, in order to help them to create their account and in their first edits (the toughest ones!) and show them how to improve for better contributions
Measures of success
editPlease provide a list of both quantitative and qualitative criteria that will be used determine how successful the project is. You will need to report on the success of the project according to these measures after the project is completed. See the PEG Program Resources for suggested measures of success. Note: In addition to your project-specific measures of success, you will also be asked to report on some Global Metrics at the end of your final report. Please keep this in mind as you plan, and we'll support you as you begin your project.
- Using Wikimetrics, keep track of the new registered users and make follow-ups to know how they like their experiences and how we can better support them in their future contributions
- Have monthly scheduled events and see who's returning, build their confidence, trying to create a higher community value and encourage them to help others who begins
The FR Wikisource as of today, have 172 active users in the 30 past days. With Projet Québec/Canada, our hopes are to create a supporting community to increase these statistics. In the first 6 months, our goal is to bring to the project 100 new users (with high level of edits - 20+ edits per month), and between 200 and 300 new users (with regular level of edits - less than 20 edits a month). The different source-a-thons and edits labs we'll be holding will serve to a secondary objective not only to promote and support new users but to have a weekly book completion as well.
Resources and risks
editResources
editHaving a lot of spare time, I already have presentation dates in a major Montreal university and at the Quebec National and Archive Library in Montréal as well. I am waiting for municipalities public libraries and private schools as well, as they showed interest in the project. Doing this on my free time and will, the only purpose of this grant would be to give t-shirts and buttons for the new contributors to the project, and spread awareness of Wikisource in the community.
These presentations will be promoted and announced by Wimimedia Canada too.
On Wikisource: Ernest-Mtl (me), and Benoit Rochon for Wikimedia Canada
Ernest-Mtl
editBeing a tax accountant leaves me a lot of spare time out of the 3-months tax schedule. I have been contributing on the French Wikipedia since 2003, although I was not a big contributor. When I partipated in Wikimania 2010 in Gdansk, I discovered the sister projects of the Foundation and got interested in the Wikimedia commons. It's in Wikimania 2013 in Hong Kong that I discovered Wikisource for the 1st time and in Wikimania London in 2014 that I attended all the conferences on the subject and gave a few ad-hoc labs on the premisces. Having contributed to Guttenberg Project in the past, I value the potential of free knowledge and accessibility to Wikisource's archives and want to promote the Quebec and Canada organization's collaboration to this project.
Benoit Rochon
editBenoit is a project manager for Wikimedia Canada and is giving me all the necessary support in the matter.
