Effect of Climate Change in Northern Nigeria
- 1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.
Northern Nigeria is currently experiencing one of the catastrophic effects of climate change across the country – flooding.
The 2022 floods described by experts as the worst Nigeria has experienced since 2012, have destroyed crops in over 500,000 hectares of farmlands belonging to thousands of smallholder and commercial farmers across the country. The climate change effect in Low crop yield, Reduced livestock production, Food shortage, Public health crisis, Low income, Decreased hydroelectric power supply, Loss of shelter, road networks.
This program will investigate the causes of Climate Change, and the problems that Climate Change has caused in northern Nigeria and find ways to solve them.
We will work with the Wikimedians of Northern Nigeria especially the Hausa Community in creating and promoting those related to Climate Change in Northern Nigeria.
The purpose of the program is to document quality articles related to Climate Change in Northern Nigeria and to improve the existing ones in Wikipedia. The project will create awareness about how people can protect the environment.

- 3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?
This project will be Awareness Campaign, Workshop and Contest.
Awareness
I and other facilitators we will travel between three state where the problem of flooding is most affected in Northern Nigeria. The states are, Kano, Katsina and Jigawa. The idea is, we will visit most of the affected areas to see and take pictures for uploading to Wikimedia Commons. We will distribute pamphlets that contain important information on how to protect the environment to the people.
The awareness will be for three days in the capital city and two second and largest city of each state.
Workshop
We will hold a Workshop for the editors of each state to train them on how to create good articles on Wikipedia. During every workshop we will recruit new editors.
Contest
We will organize a writing competition in which participants will create articles related to environment and climate change in Northern Nigeria.

I have the team of four experience Wikimedians who's will facilitate in all the project's long.
- Yusuf Sa'adu - I'm participated and completed the Organiser Lab course, I have also organised other Wikimedia projects and facilitated in many Wikimedia projects. I'm an active editor at Hausa Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons. I will be the project lead.
- Gwanki - He's experience Wikimedian from Kano State, active and sysop editor at Hausa Wikipedia. Active editor at Wikimedia Commons, Wikidata and English Wikipedia. He has organised #WikiForHumanRights projects 2021 and 2022 for Hausa Community. He also have organised many Wikimedia projects like campaign and contest in Northern Nigeria. He will be facilitator and lead the jury team.
- Hamza DK - Experience Wikimedian from Katsina State, and professional photographer, he has organised a Wikimedia Projects and also facilitate and participate in many projects. He will be the project's photographer and facilitator in all the events.
- M Bash Ne - Experience Wikimedian from Kano State, winner of many Wikimedia Contest, overall winner of Wiki For Human Rights Contest Hausa Community 2022. Organiser and facilitator of many Wikimedia projects, Active editor at Hausa Wikipedia. He will be the project facilitators

This project will be taken place in Hausa geographical area, it will document the water flooding, soil erosion and climate change in Nothern Nigeria.

The target participants of workshop are people from Kano, Katsina and Jigawa States. We will reach out to them the projects in each state through WhatsApp groups. M Bash Ne have organised a Workshop in Jigawa State were I Facilitated. During the project we have organised a WhatsApp group of Wikimedians from Jigawa State. We will reach out to them before the event and continue engaging them though the WhatsApp Group. Gwanki is the administrator of Kano Wikimedians in WhatsApp Group and I'm also the administrator of Wikimedian Community of Karadua in Katsina State. We will let all the target participants know through our active WhatsApp groups.

We will always summarize Wikimedia friendly space policy before starting each event. We will use realable transport services during trips.
