Grant Proposal

edit
M. Please state the title of your proposal. This will also be the Meta-Wiki page title.

SheSaid events in Nigeria

Q. Indicate if it is a local, international, or regional proposal and if it involves several countries? (optional)

Local

Q2. If you have answered regional or international, please write the country names and any other information that is useful for understanding your proposal.

R. If you would like, please share any websites or social media accounts that your group or organization has.

1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.

Suggested information to gather and explain:

  • statistics relating to media coverage of women in your country
  • stats etc showing coverage of notable women in your country on Wikipedia, or other Wikimedia projects
  • status of women in your country within the business sector, etc.
2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.

Suggested additional text: This initiative is related to the Wiki Loves Women project. Wiki Loves Women contributes toward the UN’s SDG 5 Gender Equity: achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls. Within the 2030 Wikimedia Strategy, the Wiki Loves Women project works towards resolving several recommendations, in particular Invest in Skills and Leadership Development. One of the recurring initiatives of Wiki Loves Women is the #SheSaid drive.

The #SheSaid drive is aimed at improving the visibility of women in creating new or improving already existing Wikiquote entries related to them. It aims at getting women’s voices heard.

First launched in October 2020, the #SheSaid campaign on Wikiquote has been an amazing success! Across 7 languages, by the 5th January 2021, it resulted overall in 867 new or improved articles (the majority new). In 2021, the drive lead to 1823 entries on Wikiquote from 9 linguistic communities (Italian, Tagalog, Ukrainian, English, Central Bikol, French, Igbo, Catalan and Spanish) and 638 articles on Wikipedia. The drive is also the opportunity to add more structure to Wikiquote (template, categories etc.) to make it a more effective project.

Given the first two editions' success and noting that there is still a lot to do, the #SheSaid drive will run again at the end of 2022.

This grant request is meant to support participation in the #SheSaid drive in my local community.

3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?

We aim at organizing:

1. 4 x training/presentation sessions
2. 1 edit-a-thons
3. 1 online follow-up sessions with participants
4. Are your activities part of a Wikimedia movement campaign or event? If so, please select the relevant campaign below. If so, please select all the relevant campaigns from the list below. If "other", please state which.

5. Do you have the team that is needed to implement this proposal?

Our local activity will be organized within a global framework, with several experienced editors who can support our work. The drive will be globally organized by the Wiki Loves Women team. The global team does provide communication material (e.g. social media cards and posts), and communication channels and is organizing online training and support for participating groups (office hours, one-on-one, telegram group, etc.) Key people for mentorship are User:Anthere and User:Islahaddow, and key communication support is User:Afek. Several formally participating people, including administrators on Wikiquote, already indicated they will join again and can further help, more in-depth.

Our local team includes User:Peprita, User:Hopilo12, User:DammyKaka, User:Elnino898, and User:Fine acer.

User:Peprita will assist virtually such as welcoming participants, Q&A, and engagement. While User:Hopilo12 and User:Elnino898 will assist with training new participants at the physical event in Kwara while User:Fine acer and User:DammyKaka will help with the event at Lagos.
