Hopefully, our close collaboration with the Central Bank, ICOM Armenia, and similar institutions will resume in Year 2 after our successful cooperation for several years. - 8. What are your programs, approaches, and strategies? What are the challenges that you are trying to address and how will your strategies support you in addressing these challenges? (required)
Wikimedia Armenia has a Strategic Plan developed for the period of 2023-2026 and based on the strategic goals defined in this document determine our approaches and programs. One of our strategic goals is to introduce Wikimedia projects in all regions of Armenia and especially to educational institutions. The challenges we face with this goal are disparities in access to information and digital literacy across different regions of Armenia which may hinder participation in the Wikimedia movement. Financial resources are also a limitation that holds Wikimedia Armenia back from its wider outreach efforts. But our approach here is to find individuals, organizations, and donors who are interested in the Wikimedia movement and the development of rural areas. Thus, with such collaborations and, of course, Wikiclubs’ network that Wikimedia Armenia is trying to expand, we are trying to address this challenge. Another challenge that we are trying to address with our programs and approaches is recruiting newcomers and keeping them in the movement. The turnover of newcomers is a common thing, however, it is possible to keep this process of going in and out of the movement under control through constant support to them, pairing them with experienced mentors, providing them with opportunities to actively participate in various activities and make friends which is what Wikimedia Armenia is doing. Connecting with other Wikimedia communities is also a challenge because on the one hand language barrier is an issue for some parts of our community. On the other hand meeting colleagues from different communities face to face is the best way of starting a collaboration or a joint project which is not always possible because of financial constraints. But this challenge is addressed by meeting a lot of people in different wider Wikimedia events (e.g. Wikimania, CEE Meeting, etc.) and then sharing experiences with our local community and introducing them to our acquaintances from the meetings. For example, the Armenian wiki community had only one representative in the CEE Youth Group but through awareness-raising activities during community meetups and various events, young people of our wiki community are gradually integrating with this group.
