This project focuses on empowering community members by enhancing their skills, bolstering retention, and encouraging consistent engagement among new and experienced editors in Wikimedia projects. We also aim to introduce the community to various Wikimedia initiatives, broadening their awareness of diverse contribution opportunities.
Our initial quarterly project was highly successful, demonstrating participants' motivation to contribute to Wikimedia projects, notably elevating the Fante language from the Incubator to a Wikipedia (https://diff.wikimedia.org/2023/05/02/fante-language-joins-wikipedia/). This accomplishment attracted interest from other communities, and we plan to leverage this momentum to create valuable resources for wider distribution (https://www.facebook.com/groups/wikipediaweekly/permalink/5686204711427313/).
Mentorship and support will be provided by team leaders to assist community members in effective Wikimedia contributions
Recognizing the importance of partnerships, our primary strategy involves collaborating with academic institutions, GLAM institutions, and organizations committed to supporting languages. We will actively engage with entities like the University of Education Language Department, Art+Feminism, Wiki World Heritage, and other Ghanaian institutions to expand Fante language contributors. These collaborations aim to cultivate a dynamic and sustainable Fante language community within Wikimedia projects
- 7. What are the planned activities? (required) Please provide a list of main activities. You can also add a link to the public page for your project where details about your project can be found. Alternatively, you can upload a timeline document. When the activities include partnerships, include details about your partners and planned partnerships.
We are dedicated to furthering community engagement and introducing new Wikimedia initiatives and building on the success of community members who contributed to the creation of the Fante Wikipedia (fat.wikipedia.org). To achieve this, we are arranging a series of training workshops that will actively involve our community. These workshops both in-person and online, are designed to acquaint participants with Wikimedia projects and provide essential training.
The in-person workshops are scheduled across six events and will take place in Takoradi, Cape Coast, and Winneba. Alongside these, we have planned four online events to facilitate project discussions, provide insights into upcoming developments, and offer assistance. Additionally, we are excited to announce a two-day "Trainers Refreshing Training" program, which will enhance the leadership skills of selected team leaders.
Our overarching objective is to empower our community members, enabling them to make effective contributions to Wikimedia projects.

- 9. Who are the target participants and from which community? How will you engage participants before and during the activities? How will you follow up with participants after the activities? (required)
Our program aims to engage a diverse range of participants, including existing members of the Fante Wikimedia Community, Fante natives, and anyone who can contribute to the project in Fante. We recognize the importance of maintaining communication with our participants and plan to utilize various platforms such as Whatsapp, Telegram, and social media to achieve this.
To ensure continued participation and retention after the project implementation, we have developed a series of strategies. Firstly, we will collect usernames and contact information through feedback forms to keep track of our participants. Secondly, we will offer optional mailing lists and social media groups for those interested in staying updated on future events.
We also plan to identify the most active, knowledgeable, and motivated contributors and invite them to future events, providing them with opportunities to take on leadership roles within the community. Finally, we will add new participants to the existing WhatsApp/Telegram group to encourage continued discussions and collaboration.
