Part 1 Understanding your work
edit1. Briefly describe how your proposed activities and strategies were implemented
The planned activities and strategies for this project were implemented in collaboration with the Admiralty University of Nigeria Library. The activities carried out during this project included recruiting of Librarians and Archivists from different institutions in Delta State, organizing training and edit-a-thon, as well as creating a Whatsapp group for further training and mentorship. Furthermore, a list of articles relating to the culture and tradition of the Delta people were prepared by the organizers so that the participants could easily identify articles to be edited.
2. Were there any strategies or approaches that you felt were effective in achieving your goals? Please describe these strategies and approaches.
Yes. The in-person training organized was very effective in achieving the overall goals of this project. This is because, majority of the participants were newbies who had never edited Wikipedia before. The training placed the volunteers in a position were they could contribute to filling the content gap about people in Delta State. Also, the list of suggested articles created by the organizers made it easy for the participants to identify articles to edit.
3. Please use this space to upload media and other files that help tell your story and impact.

4. To what extent do you agree with the following statements regarding the work carried out with the support of this Fund? You can choose “not applicable” if your work does not relate to these goals.
A. Bring in participants from underrepresented groups | Strongly agree |
B. Create a more inclusive and connected culture in our community | Strongly agree |
C. Develop content about underrepresented topics/groups | Strongly agree |
D. Develop content from underrepresented perspectives | Strongly agree |
E. Encourage the retention of editors | Agree |
F. Encourage the retention of organizers | Agree |
5. Is there anything else you would like to share about how your efforts helped to bring in participants and/or build out content, particularly for underrepresented groups?
Given that the participants came from different institutions in the state, the project was able to draw people from different language and culture in Delta State and while many of the Languages are considered minor, it gave opportunity for different underrepresented culture to be part of the Wikimedia Movement.
Part 2: Your main learning
edit6. In your application, you outlined your learning priorities. What did you learn about these areas during this period?
The project exposed me to the different cultural practices in Delta State, for instance, I was able to learn, through this project, that the Urhobos and the Itsekiris share similar believes and identical language. Also, I was able to learn that the Deltans also celebrate the New Yam Festival - a celebration common to the Easterners in Nigeria. Also, Librarians from the different institution showed more willingness to learn more and be involved in Wikimedia activities. Many of the representatives from different institutions invited us to come also train the staff in their institution.
7. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences?
Everything went well according to plan. Although, some of the participants had challenge in creating their Wikipedia account because of blocked IP address.
8. How do you hope to use this learning? For instance, do you have any new priorities, ideas for activities, or goals for the future?
Yes, the success of this project was hinged on the collaboration it had with Admiralty University of Nigeria Library. the organizers received support from some of the Library staff in terms of recruiting participants and helping to ensure everything went successfully.
