We want to increase sign language literacy among the general public and help build a more inclusive society. Basic knowledge of sign language would be beneficial to all, sign languages can be used in various noisy settings and by various groups (baby sign language, deaf, hearing impaired, elders) at various steps of their lives. The web extension SignIt eases and assist users to discover sign languages vocabularies.

Different efforts are required to finish and publish the new web extension on Chrome and Firefox Web stores. We divide work among the two team members:

Roles:
- Hugo Lopez : project lead. Hugo gives guidance, handles administrative tasks and reportings. He will publish the web extension on 2 web stores : Chrome web store and Firefox web stores. Hugo is a long term wikimedians, former Wikimedian in residence, Google Summer of Code mentor and a referent for Lingua Libre. The grant will pay Hugo 8 workdays, no other income are perceived.
- Kabir Singh : JS developer. Kabir find ways to implement new feature within the context of security-tightened web extensions. Kabir is a former Google Summer of Code intern for Lingua Libre SignIt which gives us confidence in the project. The grant will pay Kabir 15 workdays, no other income are perceived.

We shared with the Lingua Libre community, University of Toulouse, IRIS (deaf association in Toulouse), and other deaf contact our will to finish and publish this revamp of SignIt in early 2025, ideally January. Some member proposed alternative European Comission's research funding. But we think a small scale, agile, Wikimedia rapid grant would be more reactive and enough.

We want for SignIt to be used, and for Wikimedians and the general public to discuss the usage of Sign languages by wikimedians and non-deaf people. We argue sign language could enhance everybody's communication experience.
