- 1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.
A lot of schools in Northern Nigeria, especially Katsina State are introducing online classes due to issues of insecurities and other insurgencies. This project will target schools in Katsina and guide them on how to use Wikipedia as a major source of data/information/reference for students and teachers in the study area. This project will thus increase Wikipedia recognition and readership in Secondary Schools in Katsina and some states in Northern Nigeria. Emphasis will be made in training Female teachers since they represent greater parcentage in the education line.
- 2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.
Reading Wikipedia in classroom integrates Wikipedia and the UNESCO Media and Information Literacy (MIL) framework. Education in some states in Northern Nigeria such as: Katsina, Kaduna, Yobe are becoming seemingly impossible via physical classes and thus, since Covid 19 pandemic, a lot of schools have implemented online classes for their pupils. This is a chance at hand to introduce Wikipedia to schools as a basic tool for information and reference. This project will create Wikipedia awareness in secondary schools across Katsina region and I as an ex-teacher and currently a postgraduate student will guide them how to use different Wikipedia projects in sourcing out information for teaching and carrying out assignments by students.
