6. What is the change you are trying to bring? What are the main challenges or problems you are trying to solve? Describe this change or challenges, as well as main approaches to achieve it. (required)

The change we aim to bring is the increased representation and recognition of women's contributions to South Sudan's history, addressing the significant gender gap in documentation that has led to the underrepresentation of women’s roles, particularly during the 21 years of conflict. The main challenges include the scarcity of documented information about women, cultural barriers that silence their voices, and limited access to resources for local contributors. To achieve this change, we will create comprehensive biographies of notable South Sudanese women and leverage Wikimedia platforms like Wikipedia and Wikidata to share their stories. Our approach involves engaging and training local historians and community members in documentation practices, collaborating with local female organizations like the GoGirls ICT initiative in Juba and Ma'Marasakit village to gather materials, and promoting awareness about documenting these contributions. We hope to foster a more inclusive historical narrative that honours women's roles and inspires future generations by implementing these strategies.

7. What are the planned activities? (required) Please provide a list of main activities. You can also add a link to the public page for your project where details about your project can be found. Alternatively, you can upload a timeline document. When the activities include partnerships, include details about your partners and planned partnerships.

We will train a community of participants sourced from the GoGirls ICT Initiative and Ma'Marasakit, two women-led organizations that will bring women participants from their respective camps. These training sessions will focus on empowering these women with the skills needed to contribute to Wikimedia projects, including Wikipedia, Wikidata, and Wikimedia Commons. To enhance the training experience, we will also collaborate with historians from Juba University, who will provide valuable insights and expertise in documenting the contributions of women in South Sudan. This partnership will not only enrich the training but also foster a deeper understanding of the historical context surrounding women's roles in the country. By combining the grassroots engagement of local organizations with the academic knowledge of historians, we aim to create a robust and impactful learning environment that supports the documentation of women’s achievements in South Sudan.

9. Who are the target participants and from which community? How will you engage participants before and during the activities? How will you follow up with participants after the activities? (required)

The target participants for our training activities are women from the GoGirls ICT Initiative and Ma'Marasakit, both women-led organizations that will bring participants from their respective camps in South Sudan. We will engage these participants by conducting outreach through the organizations, providing information about the training objectives and benefits, and fostering a sense of community among them. During the activities, we will create an interactive and supportive learning environment, encouraging collaboration and sharing of experiences. After the training, we will follow up with participants through regular check-ins via online platforms and community gatherings to provide ongoing support, gather feedback, and encourage their continued involvement in Wikimedia projects, fostering a sustainable network of women contributors.

11. How did you discuss the idea of your project with your community members and/or any relevant groups? Please describe steps taken and provide links to any on-wiki community discussion(s) about the proposal. (required)

We discussed the idea of our project with community members and relevant groups through a series of informational meetings and focus group discussions. We reached out to local organizations, including the GoGirls ICT Initiative and Ma'Marasakit, to gauge interest and gather input on the challenges women face in documenting their contributions. During these discussions, we shared our vision of enhancing the representation of women in South Sudan's historical narrative and the role of Wikimedia projects in achieving this goal. We actively listened to the insights and suggestions from participants, which helped refine our project approach and ensured it aligned with the community's needs and aspirations. This collaborative dialogue fostered a sense of ownership among community members, encouraging their enthusiasm and commitment to participate in the training and documentation efforts.
