This project attempts to increase awareness and understanding of human rights issues related to the environment including; protection of the environment and reduction of pollution among the Fulfulde-speaking community. We believe speakers of this language who are mostly herders and farmers living in rural settlements lack the basic knowledge and awareness about environmental human rights. We aim to address this challenges and many others like limited access to information about human rights and environmental issues in the Fulfulde language, as well as a lack of representation of these topics on the Fulfulde Wikipedia through the following approach:

  1. Build knowledge about human rights and the environment in Fulfulde language.
  2. Build the knowledge of local participants on how to contribute human rights and environment content to Wikimedia projects.
  3. Build the participants' knowledge and that of the public about local plant and animal species on Wikidata in Fulfulde language.

By empowering editors with the necessary skills and knowledge, we aim to foster the creation of high-quality content in Fulfulde language related to human rights and the environment, thus promoting greater awareness and understanding within the Fulfulde-speaking community.

  1. We have made available a list of articles to guide the participants to translate them into Fulfulde language on Fulfulde Wikipedia. This list will help in building the knowledge of local participants on how to contribute human rights and environment contents to Wikimedia projects.
  1. We are going to organize local physical and online training sessions for participants to learn how to contribute Human rights and environment topics on Fulfulde Wikipedia and Wikidata. Participants would also be supported to benefit from the different capacity building sessions organized by the campaign for the African region and globally.
  1. We are also going to organize a writing contest to engage new and old contributors to translate human rights and environment content on English Wikipedia to Fulfulde language, as well as add the Fulfulde names for Nigerian plant and animal species on Wikidata.
