- 1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.
Afro-music is a Nigerian music genre also known as afrobeats the sound involves the combination of West African musical styles, such as traditional Yoruba music and highlife, and American funk, jazz, and soul influences, with a focus on chanted vocals, complex intersecting rhythms, and percussion. Afro-music is trending sound in the world now but a lot of the songs, the artistes and other afro-musics achievements are not represented in the free knowledge space.
The distinct aim of this project is to provide open knowledge about Afro-musics in Nigeria, the music artistes and their notable achievements in the entertainment industry on wikidata in Osun state.
This project in addition will expose music enthusiast in Osun State to new knowledge of African music and also helping them acquire numerous digital and research skills to enable them contribute massively to Wikimedia project, that will increase the visibility and growth of Afro-music using the platform of wikidata.
- 2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.
Creating awareness and recruitment of new editors to Wikimedia projects. Also to promote free knowledge and open access to information hence the need for this project.
This project is an opportunity to contribute to information on Nigeria Afro-beat musics, notable afrobeat artistes and other important information about the musics on Wikidata. This project will help;
- increase the awareness of Wikimedia projects
- to introduce the basis knowledge of Wikimedia projects to people and music entusiats
- to increase the number of contributors to Wikimedia projects
- to increase the number of Afro-music songs on wikidata with necessary items.
- The contest will help to establish a long term relation with people and music enthusiasts
We will train participants on how to contribute to Wikimedia projects, with focuses on; create Wikipedia account, understand the core content policies, and understand general editing principles, improving information on Afro-music on wikidata.

The activities we will be developing includes:
We will organize two (2) in-person events to keep in touch with all participants and one (1) online training (zoom). These events will focus of Wikidata Training and Edit-a-thon for new editors and existing editors.
There will be hands-on keyboard training where the new editors will be given the avenue to practice what they have learnt.
We will create an outreach dashboard where we will assign articles to participants and also monitor their activities.
We will create a WhatsApp group where participants will be mentored after the events.

OTim75 Facilitator. He is an experienced Wikimedia Editor and he co-organized the Wikidata For Tourism in Nigeria, also facilitated Info-tourism and Wellness in Osun State. He has participated and won various prizes at different contest in the Wikimedia community such as WPWPNG 2021 and Explore Nigeria contest among others.

Most people and African music artistes are not aware of Wikimedia project and how it is an opportunity to contribute information of their crafts on wikidata. Thus, this project will help Afromusics to be more visible to people and music lovers, and also enhance information literacy skills of the people who uses wikidata.

Music lovers and enthusiasts of Osun State are the audience. Participants will be communicated via different social media channels and physical gatherings. A WhatsApp follow-up group will be created to further engage them. The group will provide them with tips on creating, editing, and retrieving wikidata items.
During the project, I and the team member will be actively involved in facilitating the training, together, to make sure that the participants get the act and art of contributing to Wikidata. Also, we will monitor the activities of the new editors to make sure that Wkidata is not vandalized out of ignorance.

The General friendly space policy for Wikimedia events will be summarized and to be read at the beginning of each event to remind the participants and the organizers of the importance of a friendly space policy.
