I want to make knowledge freely available on Wikipedia pages on digital economy paying particular attention to the gap in digital tech ownership and consumption between men and women in Africa. this will serve as a means of encouraging women to develop an interest in the digital economy. Authors such as Porfido and Marks (2020) assert that only 9% of tech start-ups in Africa were led by women. The authors went further to say that there is a 37% gap between men's access to mobile internet compared to women. Perfiso and Mark further assert that one of the major causes f the non=participation of women in the digital economy is lack of digital skills.

Non participation of of women in the digital economy robs women of the benefits such as increased productivity, reduced cost of production and marketing, extended reach to more customers, and innovation to mention but a few. African women's participation in the digital economy will help the African continent to meet some of the 17 sustainable goals such as Goal 1 -End poverty, Goal 2 - Zero hunger, Goal 4 - Quality education and Goal 10 - Reduce inequalities.

My main approach to achieving this is to train interested University women to document published literature on the digital economy and women on Wikipedia pages. this will serve as a two-pronged approach to the problem. First the participants will learn the digital skills required to contribute to Wikimedia and second, the participants will learn more about the digital economy as they read published articles to summarize in Wikipedia pages.

The planned activities for the project are as follows. 1. Sell the project idea to women's organisations in the University such as the University women's association and Forum for African Women Educationalist through a seminar. 2. Agree on the modalities for carrying out the project with the organisations 3. Secure a training venue and date for the project. 4. Generate topics that participants cn work on using PETSCAN 5. Source out published literature on the topics. 6. Organize a three day training for the participants using the Wikimediatraining module 7. Give a space of 30 days for participants to use the knowledge they gained from the training to edit Wikipedia pages on given topics. 8. Organize a meet-up for participants to share experiences gained in the project.

The members of my team are: 1. Ezinne Njoku (User: Ezimoo). Ezinne has been a volunteer facilitator in Wikimedia projects held at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka since 2018. 2. Beatrice Ewa (User: Beatrice Ewa). Beatrice Ewa joined the Wikimedia movement in 2029 and has remained a volunteer facilitator since then. 3. Onyebuchi Echezona (User: Onyebuchi Echezona) joined the Wikimedia movement in 2022 and has remained a committed editor. 4. 9. Who are the target participants and from which community? How will you engage participants before and during the activities? How will you follow up with participants after the activities? (required)

The target participants are members of the University Women's Association (UWA), University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) and Forum for African African Women Educationalists (FAWE), Enugu State Chapter who volunteered to participate in the project. Before the project starts, a call will be issued for interested participants to register for the project through the UWA and FAWE, UNN WhatsApp platforms and the University of Nigeria mailing list. A WhatsApp platform will be set up for the people who registered for the project. An online questionnaire will be sent to the participants to determine their expectations for volunteering in the project. the WhatsApp platform will also serve as the avenue for passing other information relevant to the project to the participants.

After the training, participants will have a physical meet-up to discuss their experiences during the project. The meet-up will feature a series of focus group discussion groups to gather information on the experiences of the participants during the project as well as information on other learnings about the project that occurred outside the training venue. Peer-to-peer learning will be encouraged at the meet-up.

Discussions on this project have been ongoing at the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) Wikimedia Facilitators meeting since October 2023. Even, a proposal was put up on the topic by the NGO "Literacy for Sustainable Living Nigeria" on March 2024. Unfortunately, the proposal did not go through. It is the importance that Wikimedians in UNN placed on the topic that forced our research group to pick up the topic again.

The project was announced in the Wikimedia Nigeria User Group platform, Surplus People in the Universities Research Group (SPURG) Platform and the Deforetation in Nigeria WikimediaWhatsApp platform.
