Proposal
edit1. What is the overall vision of your organization and how does this proposal contribute to this? How does this proposal connect to past work and learning?
The main aim of WikiActivate Projects is to retrain and encourage Wikimedia editors who has relapsed in contributing to Wikimedia projects to start off again, also groom new intended editors into the community. We aim to achieve this through organizing of Online and Physical trainings, Collaborating with Existing User groups and Organizations Edith-a-thon, Awareness and online engagements.
2. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important?
The Wikimedia Activate Community has not be recognized as a user group but we have been running events on a individual grants with strong ties to develop a solid community with a structured and planned activities to engage volunteers and retain editors. This idea is a continuous process for us and we started off good with all our online trainings and meetings starting from WikiLockdown, WikiSanta, WikiInteract and planning to host them again this yea with more events to recreate and help build our community.
Therefore rather than having reactive projects to implement it would bring a lot of change to the community to have better planned events to implement to help:
1. To engage Wikimedia editors who has relapsed in contributing to Wikimedia Projects 2. We also want to be able to raise funds directly or indirectly for Wikimedia 3. To increase the number of new editors and the retention ratio 4. To promote and increase age and gender diversity content 3. One of our mission is to promote and create awareness of free and open access to knowledge 4. Increase Participation - cultivating sustainable communities of WikiActivate content creators, librarians to create content in languages
3. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.
We plan to achieve these goals through: Contents generations 1. Contents drives – We aim to organize and participate in content drives such as edit-a-thons, translation-a-thons, contests such as Wiki Loves Africa, Wiki Loves Earth, Wiki Loves Monuments, WikiGap, Wiki Campaign for Human Right, 1L1ref, WPWP, AfroCine, etc. We plan to collaborate with new and existing user groups in Nigeria. 2. 3. Documentation– Documentation of indigenous works unique to Africa and culture such as Adire, pottery, local Markets, blacksmith, local oil making, drum-making, hair-making, mat-making, broom-making, wine-tapping, Garri-making, fufu-making, basket-weaving, local fishing, etc. We will document at least 20 Pictures/visuals of these works and upload on wikicommons
4. Edit-a-thons' – We plan to organize monthly edit-a-thons to generate content on Wikipedia, and Wiktionary, develop and grow the Wiktionary, contribute content to Wikimedia Commons, Wikiquote and Wikidata. Capacity Building 1. Training: We will train new volunteers on how to contribute to the Wikipedia, Wiktionary, Wikidata, and Wikimedia Commons. Existing volunteers and new ones would be trained on program evaluation, partnership, community-building, grant-making and reporting, event planning, and conference management 2. Digital Upskilling - Participants will be taught basic MS Office, Project Management, and LinkedIn optimization for better networking (social media communication work. This will also equip fellows with skills for using workplace production and collaboration tools such as the MS Office Suite, other project tools, and social media networking such as optimization of their LinkedIn profile creating an opportunity for social media communication 3. Community Support: We aim to support community members, a mission-aligned group with small funds (not more than USD 500) that have good projects that could advance our objectives. We also plan to subsidize the internet data cost for active members of the community who could not afford to purchase internet data.
Others
- Provide an avenue for a young professional to come together for collaboration, capacity building, skill sharing, discourse around Wikimedia Projects, Training & Editathon, and project management and organizational skills.
- Promote the use of Wikipedia as a reliable source of information in African schools, a pilot project has been done and this will further build on it.
- Soft skills development; capacity building in areas of Entrepreneurial Leadership(using Wikipedia as a source) will equip fellows/participants with skills for leading self, leading/collaborating with others, leading projects, and leading change in systems and their society.

The participants will have capacity building on both the Wikimedia Foundation projects and soft skills such as; Communication skills, Emotional Intelligence, and Proactivity, and building a good Linkedin profile (basic digital skills) making use of Wikipedia as a tool for the resource. Each participant will get a certificate of participation afterward and will also be onboarded as an WikiActivate Fellow As we aim to re-engage inactive editors in the community as we reactivate our old members , all these projects will be a way to build momentum and help us build the community with a more structured timeline and dedicated time events to increase collaboration as well as retain volunteers and attract newbies as well. The main outcomes for the community are as follows;
