Applications are not required to be in English. Please complete the application in your preferred language.
Project Goal
editWhat will be the outputs of your project and how will those outputs contribute to advancing a specific Movement Strategy Initiative
- The main reason why we are adopting TV programs is to promote our programs, recruit volunteers, and train more people who are interested in contributing to the Dagbani Wikipedia but may otherwise not be able to attend our in-person workshops because of their location, time, and distance. Sagani TV, is a northern-based free-to-air digital satellite TV channel on the Multi-TV decoder, which means anyone in Ghana and beyond can access our program irrespective of their geographical location.
At the end of this project, we will be able to:
- Produce video content to promote Wikimedia projects in Northern Ghana on Wikimedia Commons, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.
Produce video content to promote Wikimedia projects on digital TV. Recruit more editors through mass media. Create or improve the quality of articles on the Dagbani Wikipedia. Create partnership opportunities in Northern Ghana.
- What specific Movement Strategy Initiative does your project focus on and why? Please select one of the initiatives described here
- In line with the Wikimedia 2030 strategy recommendations, our community programs will work to support the following strategy recommendations:
Innovate in free knowledge: We believe that digital TV as a mass communication medium has the potential to reach more audiences in Ghana and beyond. To continuously explore and expand the range of free knowledge projects to stay relevant and to serve our user group's vision, we are continuing our ongoing tele-education program on Sagani TV, a Free-To-Air (FTA) Digital Satellite Northern-base Television. The Dagbani Wikipedia Saha is a Wikipedia TV broadcast program that seeks to promote our programs, recruit volunteers and train more people who are interested in contributing to the Dagbani Wikipedia and may otherwise not be able to attend our in-person workshops because of their location, time and distance.
Project Background
edit- When do you intend to begin this project and when will it be completed?
- March 2023 - October 2023.
- Where will your project activities be happening?
- Tamale, Northern Ghana.
- Are you collaborating with other communities or affiliates on this project? Please provide details of how partners intend to work together to achieve the project goal.
- Yes, we are collaborating with all our sub-language communities, such as the Moore, Gurene, Dagaare, and Kusaal Wikimedia communities. Since these languages are part of the Mabia family and are mutually intelligible, it would be easier for these communities to learn and contribute to their various language wikis.
- What specific challenge will your project be aiming to solve? And what opportunities do you plan to take advantage of to solve the problem?
- The Dagbani Wikipedia Saha seeks to create awareness about Wikipedia, recruit volunteer editors, and harness their skills in contributing to the Dagbani Wikipedia and other sister projects. This is intended for individuals who otherwise may not be able to attend our in-person workshops because of their location, time, or distance. The Dagbani Wikipedia Saha will help us spread our wings and train more volunteers who might not be able to join our virtual training sessions because of their limited access to the internet. With the help of the rapid grant and community support programs, we were able to pilot Seasons 1 and 2 of the Dagbani Wikipedia Saha. This grant will help us continue Season 3 of the Dagbani Wikipedia Saha. In collaboration with Sagani TV, a northern-based digital TV station, the Dagbani Wikipedia Saha has significantly increased the awareness of Wikipedia and its sister projects in northern Ghana and beyond.
In order to reach a wider audience, all the episodes are live streamed on our YouTube and Facebook channels, as well as our partner TV station, so that community members can always watch the recordings later.
- Does this project aim to apply one of the examples shared in the call for grants and if so which one?
- Yes, Creating a new learning resources

Outcomes
editAfter your activities are complete, we would like to understand the draft implementation plan for your community. You will be required to prepare a document detailing this plan around a movement strategy initiative. This report can be prepared through Meta-wiki using the Share your results button on this page. The report can be prepared in your language, and is not required to be written in English.

Your draft implementation plan document should address the following questions clearly:

- What do you expect will happen as a result of your activities? How do those outcomes address the movement strategy initiative?
- How will you measure or evaluate your activities? What tools or methods will you use to evaluate your activities?
To create a draft implementation plan, we recommend the use of a logic model, which will help you and your team think about goals, activities, outcomes, and other factors in an organized way. Please refer the following resources to develop a logic model:
- Overview of logic models on Meta-wiki
- Example logic models for reference for other movement activities (such as partnerships and edit-a-thons)
- Blank logic model template on Google Drive
