Summary
editThis proposal seeks to raise awareness about the 2030 Movement Strategy among the Maithili-speaking Wikimedia community, and to let them know about the initiatives of Movement Strategy and importantly, Movement Charter & Hubs.
It focuses on translating relevant Meta content pages into Maithili language, distributing that information to the community members, and encourage interested ones to further carry out the implementation of those strategy initiatives for the inclusive participation and sustainable development of Maithili community.
Project Goal

- Community engagement and global discussion on Movement Strategy, increase awareness and understanding of the Movement Charter will be the key outputs of this project. These outputs are expected to contribute in increasing the sustainability of our movement while ensuring equity in decision-making.

- Increased awareness about the Wikimedia Movement: There is a lack of awareness about the Movement Strategy in our community so to engage and support the community, the first step is to translate Movement Strategy and Movement Charter content pages into the Maithili language and share it with the community with the aim of inclusion and more participation. This proposal focus on the recommendations to increase the sustainability of our Movement and Ensure Equity in Decision Making.

- 15 November 2023 - 15 January 2024
- Where will your project activities be happening?
- Translations will be on Meta-Wiki, two online meetings and one final offline meeting will be conducted most probably in Rajbiraj (location may change) within Maithili community.
- Are you collaborating with other communities or affiliates on this project? Please provide details of how partners intend to work together to achieve the project goal.
- Yes. The ultimate goal of this engagement is to refresh the participation of MWUG, and involve them in the subject of global discussion like Movement Charter & Hubs. We will be also spreading awareness among other Indic communities to come together and participate, and help achieve the goal of increased Wikimedia awareness all along.
- What specific challenge will your project be aiming to solve? And what opportunities do you plan to take advantage of to solve the problem?
- The foremost goal is to inform the regional communities about the Movement Charter by discussing and communicating the actions and initiatives of the Movement Strategy. By taking advantage of these opportunities, we hope to raise awareness and engage the community members in these conversations for the future of the movement.
- Does this project aim to apply one of the examples shared in the call for grants and if so which one?
- Yes. Community engagement by translating strategy contents and encouraging community members to involve them in strategic discussions to raise awareness about community sustainability and decision-making.
Project Activities
edit- What specific activities will be carried out during this project? Please describe the specific activities that will be carried out during this project.
- Translation: Here is the list of priority pages. The foremost activities will be translating all the necessary documents into Maithili language.
- Community engagement: There will be one offline Meetup and two online meeting with the community members. We are expecting 10-20 participants in this facilitated conversations. We intended to share, with community members, the progress of Movement Strategy to-date. Those conversations will inform people about the Recommendations and Initiatives. Also, we will be seeking feedback on the Movement Charter.
- How do you intend to keep communities updated on the progress and outcomes of the project? Please add the names or usernames of these individuals responsible for updating the community
- We will be organizing one offline Meetup most probably in Rajbiraj. There will be a diff post as well. And, Village pump and local site notice on Maithili Wikipedia will be used to inform the community about the upcoming engagements and how and where to key in.
- Who will be responsible for delivering on this project and what are their roles and responsibilities?
- I will be leading on this project, and collaborating with others to deliver on some aspects of the project, with the following roles:
- Coordinator (myself): I’ll be responsible for the major activities of the project, including receiving the grants funds, writing the grants report, and supporting the translations of the Movement Strategy pages into Maithili language.
- Co-Coordinator: Biplab Anand will be assisting me in the overall operations of the project. Facilitating and debriefing in the Meetings and Meetup.
- Outreach Meetup & awareness: Pankaj Deo and Bijay Chaurasia will be taking care of travel and logistics, food and refreshments.
- Gender Gap: To fill the gender gap, Nilam Karn will be there to ensure smooth female participation in this project.

- We will abide by the Friendly Space Policy. In the initial phases, we will translate the information, after which we will inform the Maithili community via an online meeting so that they may assess the content and provide input.
- If your activities include the use of paid online tools, please describe what tools these are and how you intend to use them.
- We will be using Google Meet or Zoom platform for online meetings.
- Do your activities include the translation of materials, and if so, in what languages will the translation be done? Please include details of those responsible for making the translations.
- Yes, the translation will be done in Maithili language. Biplab Anand and Kiran Kumar Sah will be assisting me in the translation.
- Are there any other details you would like to share? Consider providing rationale, research or community discussion outputs, and any other similar information, that will give more context on your proposed project.
- Among 47 initiatives, we will be prioritizing to raise awareness about the Movement Charter & Hubs more in our community to ensure the equity in decision-making.
Outcomes
editAfter your activities are complete, we would like to understand the draft implementation plan for your community. You will be required to prepare a document detailing this plan around a movement strategy initiative. This report can be prepared through Meta-wiki using the Share your results button on this page. The report can be prepared in your language, and is not required to be written in English.
In this report, you will be asked to:
- Provide a link to the draft implementation plan document or Wikimedia page
- Describe what activities supported the development of the plan
- Describe how and where you have communicated your plan to relevant communities.
- Report on how your funding was spent
Your draft implementation plan document should address the following questions clearly:
- What movement strategy initiative or goal are you addressing?
- What activities will you be doing to address that initiative?
- What do you expect will happen as a result of your activities? How do those outcomes address the movement strategy initiative?
- How will you measure or evaluate your activities? What tools or methods will you use to evaluate your activities?
To create a draft implementation plan, we recommend the use of a logic model, which will help you and your team think about goals, activities, outcomes, and other factors in an organized way. Please refer the following resources to develop a logic model:
