Grants:Project/Micro/WikiIndaba 2023 Zimbabwe/Report
In Zimbabwe we met on one day at the Natural History Museum of Zimbabwe and attended WikiIndaba 2023 virtually .
Goals
editWe did not meet our goals as the conference was poorly attended. We had museum staff coming in one by one to follow proceedings but were not willing to learn how to edit and be part of the team.
Outcomes
editThe event was a success, though we were few, we managed to attend all the sections that we felt were relevant to us as a community that is new and wanting to grow. We learnt a lot and were able to identify projects that will help us a grow.
Learning
editWhat worked well?
editWe were able to attend the sessions we wanted to attend. Though internet connectivity was unstable especially from the Moroccan side we were happy with what we learnt. We were able to discuss our strategy and map the way forward.
What did not work so well?
editWe were very few considering the number of editors in Zimbabwe. The fact that new people attended the conference but were not willing to learn and start editing shows that we still need to improve our advocacy skills to be able to recruit new editors.
What would you do differently next time?
editWe will apply for grants well in advance so that we have more time to invite people and improve attandance, especially for new comers. We also need to apply for more funding to allow for editors from other cities to be able to attend.
Grant funds spent
editWe received a Micro grant of $200 and the funds were spent as follows
