Project Plan
editActivities
editTell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:
1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?
We are producing one editathon during the 2018 Oslo Freedom Forum taking place on May 28 in Oslo, Norway.
2. How will you let your community know about the event? Please paste links below to where relevant communities have been notified of your proposal, and to any other relevant community discussions.
- The editathon will be part of a larger Interactive Expo taking place during the Oslo Freedom Forum. The OFF community at large has been notified of the Interactive Expo and all of its programming through email notifications and the Human Rights Foundation (HRF) monthly newsletter and relevant mailing lists. The Interactive Expo and Wikimedia Norway’s participation will be featured in the official OFF program book that will be given to all OFF attendants. Most importantly, OFF speakers and participants that we believe are especially qualified will be personally encouraged by key HRF staff members, including the Chief Strategy Officer, Alex Gladstein, and Global Director of the Oslo Freedom Forum, Jamie Hancock, to partake in the editathon.
3. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event?
- The Executive Director of Wikimedia Norway, Astrid Carlsen, will be helping to lead the editathon and support participants. She has been working with Wikimedia Norge since 2014 and has several years of work experience in publishing. Astrid will also be supported by Oslo Freedom Forum staff and other Norwegian Wikimedians who will help her set up and address any other needs that pop up during the editathon.
4. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?
- We will host the editathon at an area inside the venue at Sentralen in downtown Oslo and will provide all of the equipment necessary for a successful editathon. Participants of the editathon will consist of members of the OFF community, including past and present OFF speakers, dissidents, activists, journalists and netizen - all subject matter experts in their respective fields. Having been at the forefront and have first hand experience with the content that they will be contributing. Past OFF speakers have come from more than 94 different countries and have spoken 22 languages. They have more than 20 million Twitter followers, published more than 360 books, served as head of state in 10 countries, and have received eight Nobel Prizes. We are confident that participants of the 2018 OFF Editathon will be highly qualified and produce quality content for the pages they will be editing.
5. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?
- We will encourage the participants to continue to edit and update the pages through personalized communications after the forum, emphasizing the importance of having up-to date web pages with accurate information.
6. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?
- The 2018 Oslo Freedom Forum will host hundreds of human rights activists and technologists. One of our key goals will be to get dissidents, activists, journalists, and netizen OFF attendees from more than 50 countries to get involved in editing their own country's important pages, such as country page, leader (or dictator), top activists, and any key human rights or corruption issues. Working together, we can expose the crimes of corrupt governments while also shining a light on those who are working to make the world a better place.

- Number of of articles created or improved - 50 (our goal)
