Goals
editDid you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went? Yes, all project goals were met. They were met as follows:
- We recruited new editors
- We introduced new editors to Wikipedia and its sister projects
- We created created/improved Wikidata items.
- New editors were trained to contribute to Wikidata.
Outcome
editPlease report on your original project targets. Please be sure to review and provide metrics required for Rapid Grants.
Target outcome | Achieved outcome | Explanation |
Number of events=4 | 4 | We succeeded in organizing all the 4 events successfully. |
Number of participants=50 | 32 | Some of the participants are teachers in communities far from the hosting venue hence could not take part physically. Nevertheless, they were contacted after the event and taken through what was taught at the event via zoom. |
Number of Wikidata items created or improved=60 | 141 | We exceeded our target by a whooping 81 items edited. These participants being new to the Wikimedia Movement were motivated by the way that they were introduced to the Movement and some of the projects. |
Number of repeat participants (for projects that include a series of events)=50 | 32 | Some of the participants are teachers and far away at their various schools and hence could not take part in the physical event but they were still taken through the same training via zoom. |
Learning
editProjects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:
- What worked well?
Participants were grouped into two where we had 16 them in each group. We targeted 50 members to participate but due to reasons explained earlier we had the target number short of 18. This division greatly worked for us because we had time to attend to individual concerns during the question and answer session since number of participants was reasonable. Internet access fluctuations has always been a challenge a in most of of events but this time around we were able to put that to rest because of the internet backups that we made provision for.
- What did not work so well?
Unannounced electrical power outages marginally hindered some sessions of the event.
- What would you do differently next time?
We would make provision for secondary source of electrical power in order to cater for unexpected power outages.
