Project Plan
editActivities
editTell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:
1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?
We are planning a series of 5 editathons over 1 month focused reducing racial gap on Wikipedia and WikiCommons.
- 2 editathons at the house of Afro-Uruguayan culture in Montevideo. 1 editathon of 2 will be in-person and online.
- 1 talk at the Cósmica contemporary art fair in Montevideo.
- 1 talk and 1 editathon at the institute of human rights of Uruguay.
- 2 editathons with Afrofloreciendo association, Paysandú, Uruguay.
2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You are required to provide links to on-wiki pages to inform these communities about your proposed work. Examples of places where this can be done include community discussion pages, affiliate discussion pages, or relevant project talk pages.
- we will post in our projects pages and communicate it to all participants to our projects.
- we will post notifications on the portals of Wikiproyecto África, Wikiproyecto Mujeres de Latinoamérica, to invite their participants to come to the online event.
- we are member of Wikimedians of the Caribbean User Group and we will share the events in the group.
- we have used our local and international mailing list to invite participating in the events.
- we sent e-mails of invitation to black feminist collectives and black european feminist plateforms
- Wikimedistas de Uruguay will promote these events.
3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
- the project will be presented at the international fair of contemporary art Cósmica.
- The organizations that host us, will make the promotion of the editathons.

5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?
- Yes. The entities will provide the equipment for the editathons.
6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?
- The organizers of the event will send a thanks box created for the Spanish project Ennegreciendo Wikipedia.
- We will monitor the work done by new editors between events so they can answer questions and offer feedback. We will also use a Facebook group for editathon participants to talk. .
- We do monthly sessions for the improvement of the articles participating in our projects.
7. Are you running any in-person events or activities? If so, you will need to complete the steps outlined on the Risk Assessment protocol related to COVID-19. When you have completed these steps, please provide a link to your completed copy of the risk assessment tool below:
- All our activities will be in person.
8. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project? There are only statistics on the contribution of the African-American diaspora in Wikipedia. Our goal is to encourage the creation of groups of Spanish-speaking editors of African descent. We intend to raise our project in Spanish to the same level of development, divulgation and creation of articles as the project in French, which already has more than 180 articles, carries out pedagogical projects with European and Caribbean universities in French and collaborates with many organizations of the African diaspora in Europe and Africa. And this time we have the support of institutions that work and/or represent the Afro-Uruguayan population. And as always the support of Wikimedia Uruguay. In order to encourage the Afrodescendant community of Latin America for the Wikipedia; We must be interested in its cultural legacy and that this work of inclusion in the online encyclopedia has an impact of recognition of the cultural contribution of the African diaspora to the foundations of Latin American culture.

- Strong support An important project by experienced trainers and organisers to address the lack of representation of Afrodescedents in the movement. The project also reflects the transnational realities of the African diaspora. Recent research shows how significant underrepresentation of Afrodescendents in USA and UK participate in the Wikimedia movement - little has been done to measure underrepresentation outside of the Anglosphere. This project is an opportunity to connect with disenfranchised and marginalised communities in Uruguay, and build on the work of Ennegreciendo Wikipedia and Wikimedistas de Uruguay.
