I am a professional documentary photographer with over 500 quality images from around Nigeria and recently was a grantee to Photowalk at Ogun and Oyo states project which was very successful as this prompted this new grant to document the southern eastern part of Nigeria. After the success of the last project, i was invited by some south eastern photographers as they want to start contributing to wiki commons aswell. So this project is aimed at primarily taking freely licensed high quality photographs of municipalities and associated landmarks in the south eastern part of Nigeria which hold great historical landmarks in the history of Nigeria and which most dont have pictures on Wikipedia yet and also organizing a workshop for the region photographers on how to contribute to Wiki commons.

Project Plan

Activities

1. How many walks/tours will you organize and how many people on each walk?

8 different photowalk each day across the states and 5 photographers.

2. What kind of content will the walks focus on? Why is this topic a priority?

The focus will be on monuments, architectural buildings, nature reserves, and other landmarks which has articles on Wikipedia but no pictures, they include but not limited to: Enyimba International Stadium, Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Federal Government College Enugu, Godfrey Okoye University, Sam Mbakwe Airport, Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, University of Nigeria, Our Saviour Institute of Science and Technology, Polo Park Mall, Ebonyi State University

3. What is the plan to ensure images will be used on Wikimedia projects?

There will be an online edit a thon immediately after the photowalks to upload the images on Wikimedia commons at the hotel and also add it to corresponding Wikipedia articles. There will also be a mini workshop for south eastern photographers on how to upload to wiki commons.

4. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

Yes, all of the participants will be professional photographer

5. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

This project will further provide more images about the south eastern part of Nigeria which have not be well documented in the past. The states include Abia, Anamabra, Enugu, Ebonyi and Imo states and this will also create awareness of Wiki commons to other professional photographers.

Impact
