Project Plan
editActivities
editTell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:
1. What content will the contest focus on, and why is it important to your community?
- Continuing GOI Foundation’s initiatives about improving local language content on Twi Wikipedia. This project ultimately seeks to create content about Time on Twi Wikipedia by creating and Translating articles about names of the days in a week, day born names and names of the months. We consider this project an avenue to increase diversity and participation from a widely spoken language in Ghana on wikipedia. We hope to achieve this by engaging students and lecturers of the Language department of KNUST. This would also encourage the budding of other small language communities, especially in Africa, that are still struggling to become visible on the internet.
- A contest launch will be held online prior to the contest, primarily to introduce participants to Twi language wikipedia and Wikimedia commons and also provide hands on experience to new editors.
- 30 full days from April 1 to 30 shall be allowed for the period of the competition.
- Judges will use a week to clean up English Wikipedia, Twi Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons entries as well as to tabulate scores.
- Winners shall be announced and prizes awarded in the 2nd week of May.
2. How will you let people know about the contest?
- Global Open Initiative social media spaces
- Wikimedia Ghana Usergroup mailing list
- Wikimedians of Africa mailing list
- Village Pump
- We would also send emails about the contest to anyone who has signed up for our contest before. In addition to the above we would share on the Whatsgroup page of the KNUST Twi community group page inviting students to participate.
3. How will you judge the contest and award prizes?
Note: Grantees, judges, and other contest leaders are ineligible to receive prizes. Grantees who are serving as judges may not receive gifts through grant funding.
- Participants of the contest will be awarded based on their contribution and quality of work done. This would be achieved using metrics from the Outreach Dashboard tool, articles history pages and a manual examination of work done by Judges.
4. For photo contests, what is the strategy to get images used on projects?
- n/a
5. Are you running any in-person events or activities? If so, you will need to complete the steps outlined on the Risk Assessment protocol related to COVID-19. When you have completed these steps, please provide a link to your completed copy of the risk assessment tool below:
6. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?
- The proposed project will last for a month. Meetings will be held every week to ensure members participation and address concerns and challenges.
We have successfully organized a Twi Wikipedia Translatathon in 2019.
