Grants:Project/Rapid/Hermolaou/Spreading Orthodox books
Project Goal
editBriefly explain what are you trying to accomplish with this project, or what do you expect will change as a result of this grant. Example goals include, "recruit new editors", "add high quality content", or "train existing editors on a specific skill".
- Obtain from various sites on the internet a collection of Orthodox Christian books and get them uploaded to Wikimedia Commons.
- For this end, create a new Wikimedia Commons uploader that would work as a Chrome/Edge browser extension. Publish it on GitHub.
- Improve the quality of some of those books by adding outlines.
- Improve the related Wikimedia Commons category pages.
Project Plan
editActivities
editTell us how you'll carry out your project. What will you and other organizers spend your time doing? I intend to hire freelancers to carry out the tasks. I would spend my time guiding them and doing some tasks myself.
How will you let others in your community know about your project (please provide links to where relevant communities have been notified of your proposal, and to any other relevant community discussions)? Why are you targeting a specific audience? The books uploaded to Commons will eventually show up in search results, category views etc. and so should be found by those interested in them. There are articles with this proposal in Russian and Greek in the category https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Commons_requests I'm targetinig a specific audience of Orthodox Christians because they are in a need of these books. Also, people looking to study Church Fathers in English would get an opportunity to access their writings easier.
What will you have done at the end of your project? How will you follow-up with people that are involved with your project? It's basically stated in the Project Goal section above. Following-up is done through freelance and other communication sites like youdo.com, vk.com.
Are you running any in-person events or activities? If so, you will need to complete the steps outlined on the Risk Assessment protocol related to COVID-19. When you have completed these steps, please provide a link to your completed copy of the risk assessment tool below: No.
Impact
editHow will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets and feel free to add more specific to your project:

- Number of books uploaded to Wikimedia Commons (if applicable): tens to a few hundred.
- Number of books that will have outlines created in them: 10-30.
- A new W. Commons uploader published that allows to upload many files at once and to set and store metadata for them like categories and dates as easily and quickly as possible.
