Number of articles - 100 | 315 | We came to a conclusion that people become more motivated when there’s a contest with prize attached to it. Learning
editProjects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:
- What worked well?
The contest was a well deserved one. The desired outcome in terms of number of articles was overwhelming. We didn’t believe that within that short period, we’ll be able to get such number of articles. We’re excited that the number of articles in Igbo Wikipedia has reached and exceeded the 2000 milestone and we’re bent on working to get more.
- What did not work so well?
We didn’t meet up with the desired number of participants but we’ve learnt that it’s not by number but by efforts. We also realized that even after the training on how to translate on Igbo Wikipedia, new people still couldn’t handle it. We went ahead to create a powerpoint format on how to translate on Igbo Wikipedia and uploaded it to Google Drive for anyone to access it.
- What would you do differently next time?
Next time we’ll give more time for the contest and also have series of trainings or videos uploaded.

editAnything else you want to share about your project? We’re highly excited about this project. It taught us a lot of lessons even though it was just for a short while and seeing that Igbo Wikipedia articles have reached and exceeded 2000 is amazing. We’ll add more contests to our calendar in the next year.
