Goals

edit

Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?

  • Yes and No. The reason is we meet all our goals for the project but the only goal we were not able to meet was creation of more content. We are also positive of how the project went, we are looking forward for a better and an improved version of what we have done in the near future.

Outcome

edit

Please report on your original project targets.

Girls Education Initiative Ghana

0n 30th March ,2019 we had our first Shepedia meetup session at Girls Education Initiative Ghana (GEIG), an NGO which sought to provide aid or assistant to girls who are underprivileged by empowering them to acquire skills for the future through Education. The Shepedia event was to train them on how to edit using wikipedia and sister project tools to make a difference.

We had 12 girls attending the event, the event was amazing because the girls were pleased that they had the privilege to learn something new or a new skill which was wikipedia and it’s sister project.

Focus area for the training

  • History of wikipedia.
  • Guide line and policy of the project.
  • Educated them on Wikimedia project and the kind of project they would like to contribute to.
  • How to edit wikipedia and wikicommons.

Images of the event are available here

St.Thomas Senior High School

Our second wikipedia training was at the St.Thomas Senior High school which was slated on 12th April,2019. The school is underprivileged with resources, the school had more girls than the boys so the headmaster of the school insisted the boys join the girls for the training session so that they can also benefit. The training session was awesome and amazing. Introducing them to the world of wikipedia was awesome to them even though they had a bit of knowledge about wikipedia.

Advantages

  • The girls were interested in the project and they want to learn more.
  • The girls really wanted to do more writing and editing of articles on wikipedia and its sister projects.
  • St. Thomas Senior High School Headmaster is looking forward for us to have a period on campus so that we can train the students on open source technology.
  • At Icode the ladies who were able to attended the event learnt a lot and they were looking forward for us to come back next time for a major event.

Disadvantages

  • Inadequate laptops for the girls.
  • some of the participant were confused because they have not head about wikipedia before.
