Grants:Project/Rapid/KIWIX OPEN DAY
Kiwix Open Day is a one day workshop that highlight the potentiel of Kiwix software within Kisangani community. This workshop will cover the term FLOSS as well as what the GPL software licence provides why Kiwix is an open-source project, and how this is important for Wikimedia projects users.
Project Goal
edit- Spread knowledge and understanding of the offline wiki through a two-hour training workshop, using this materials:
- What is open source?
- What can you do with Kiwix?
The audience is a French speaking community, so every material will be available in French
- Train participants to understand the GPL license
- Create awareness about the Open Movement (specifically on Wikipedia and others)
- Breeding or promoting the spirit of collaboration in the open movement
- Extending reach of Wikipedia and its sister projects
- Inspiring ambassadors of the Open Movement

- This is a second project of this kind in the city. The first one was to introduce Kiwix to CS students. The report is here.

As an open day, everybody that owns a computer will be welcomed.
Resources
editWhat resources do you have? Include information on who is organizing the project, what they will do, and if you will receive support from anywhere else (in-kind donations or additional funding).
- The project will be carried out by 5 wikimedians from the local community. They will be working for 4 weeks from preparing workshop materials to training people to use Kiwix software.
What resources do you need? For your funding request, list bullet points for each expense and include a total amount.
- As said above, the projet will be led week after week. For that reason we will be offering to volunteers food and transport
