Goals

Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?

Yes, so far we have reached a high number of articles which can be seen on the outreach dashboard. But, since it coincided with other Wikimedia events, tracking down the actual articles created for the program is a bit hard. We should have used the hashtag tracker also. There is also a landing page on Central Bikol Wikipedia where editors have listed some of the created articles. We were able to conduct 5 interviews and also an online exhibit of artworks and photographs in a span of 2 weeks.

6 events with 4 hours each 1 meeting for planning which has also involved edit-a-thon of experienced Wikimedians, 1 training and discussion session for teachers through an invitation, 3 gallery visits, 4 edit-a-thons Before the actual edit-a-thon, the team decided to create a master plan first for the activity to be organized and systematic, which I was not able to do in the previous project. Articles are created to provide samples for new editors. I, together with Imelda and Judy were invited to a secondary public school to present Wikipedia. I have tackled issues on gender gaps and how the teachers could contribute to our local Wikipedia. 10 new user accounts were created during the training. However, due to poor internet creation in the area, no actual editing happened. I have just demonstrated the use of the Content translation tool. We were able to visit three galleries in Naga City, the 416 Art Space, Public Good Library, and Savage Mind. Edit-a-thons were done on a flexible schedule since the participants have different time availability.
30 participants Actual editors on the landing page are 14. 8 artists participated in the online art exhibit. A total of 60 teachers were present during the training. The same problem was encountered, some participants have only edited at a minimal pace. I should have taught them simpler edits like inserting photos on articles, adding references, or adding metadata using the ISA tool which is far mimpler. Two artists have provided portraits for five people to be interviewed and it was given as a token. The 10 teachers who have created their accounts during the training are new editors.
50 articles created or improved 498 articles created based on outreach dashboard, 32 articles listed on the landing page, 363 articles have also been listed on Wikigap As I have mentioned, due to overlapping events, some articles were tracked by the outreach dashboard which was not originally intended for the event. I should have assigned the articles or used a hashtag tracking tool. 310 articles were personally created and edited by me and luckily our community will be receiving a Kiwix hotspot for this. I have asked Eric Luth during the kick-off of the campaign if it would be alright to include the Art+Feminism articles for the campaign and he responded positively.
10 interviews 5 interviews, four were actual and 1 online I was not able to reach out earlier to the prospected people. One file is now available on Wikimedia Commons and others are to follow after transcription and translation into English.

Learning

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well?

This is the second time I have done this campaign and I was lucky enough that there are devoted Wikimedians to help me along the way, Sherlock808, Brazal.dang,MaroBos,Daramlagon,Markden24, to name a few. The Art+Feminism UG has also supported me during the entire duration of the campaign, through the community hours and micro-funding program. I was also able to talk with the Regional Ambassador and other program organizers during the Community Support Session and we had sharing of best practices and also the problems we encountered during the campaign. There is a lot of involvement in the local community and the Art+Feminism community during this time. I am also glad to have made a connection between the local artist and the gallery owners. Their artworks have served as tokens for the gallery owners during the short interview. However, there's just a technical problem with regards to the Wikimedia Commons Policy so some uploaded files of portraits were deleted.

  • What did not work so well?

Although we have been actively doing different sorts of things during the campaign, the effect of the pandemic is still visible. We are still within the bounds of this present situation. Recruiting new editors and having them do edits is much harder during this time. We could also do additional interviews but since there are still travel restrictions in some areas, we cannot maximize the opportunity.

  • What would you do differently next time?

I will incorporate doing small edits using the metadata on Wikimedia Commons so that those that are having a hard time mastering the interface will be able to do small contributions. For artworks being uploaded on Wikimedia Commons, the actual artists will be the ones to upload the file next time. Outreach dashboard will be utilized furthermore and articles will be assigned so it will be much easier to track edits. A #Art+FeminismPH should be used next time.

The funds remaining from this grant in the amount of 1,604 PHP were deducted from another grant payment for Grants:Project/Rapid/Kunokuno/Wikipedia_Pages_Wanting_Photos_in_the_Philippines_2021.

The remaining fund is PHP 1,614.00.

Anything else you want to share about your project?

One comment I have received during the interviews as it would be much better if a woman would be the one to initiate this type of program. I am thinking of considering this or consulting this to the Art+Feminism group. Maybe, I should involve more female or see this as one of the gender gaps we would like to resolve.
