Project Plan
editActivities
editTell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:
1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?
- We will be hosting 8 events (4 editathons and 4 online follow up events)in total. We plan on achieving this goal by hosting 1 in-person trainig and virtual followup every month which will go on repeatedly for 4 months
2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You are required to provide links to on-wiki pages to inform these communities about your proposed work. Examples of places where this can be done include community discussion pages, affiliate discussion pages, or relevant project talk pages.
- African Mailing List
- Wikimedia Forum
You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.
- LUCG SRC MEDIA GROUP
- WHATSAPP GROUP
- Wikimedia Ghana User Group Mailing List
- LUCG Instagram page
3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.
- Global Open Initiative social media spaces
- LUCG Wikimedia Community Whatsapp group
- LUCG Whatsapp and Instagram page
4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals.
For example: User:I JethroBT
5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?
- Participants will be notified beforehand to come with their laptops if they are to participate in editing. Events will be hosted at Lakeside University College, Ghana and the institution will further provide desktop computers to support the project because the interest has spiraled in recent weeks. To ensure that these new editors are equipped with the skills they'd need to contribute during the practical sessions, all participants would be taken through both Wikidata and Wikipedia editing tutorials before actual editing takes place.
6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?
- An online follow-up event will be held two weeks after the event to keep in touch with the general community and their contributions. But the team members will continue mentoring new volunteers immediately after the event. New volunteers will be added to the WhatsApp group to get updates on new developments and the movement in general.
7. Are you running any in-person events or activities? If so, you will need to complete the steps outlined on the Risk Assessment protocol related to COVID-19. When you have completed these steps, please provide a link to your completed copy of the risk assessment tool below:
8. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?
Participants will be put into teams and allowed to compete for prizes. While everyone at the event will receive stickers, the project will give T-Shirts to top contributors by assessing their (participants) edits before the next in-person training. Taking into consideration that the different participants will have varied editing interests, the project will ensure that everyone stands an equal chance of winning a prize. Different price categories will be created for both Wikidata and Wikipedia contributions:
- Edit count
- Pages created/edited
- Bytes Added to Wikipedia
Impact
editHow will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets:
- Number of events= 8
- Number of participants= 160
- Number of new editors = 30
- Number of articles created or improved = 300 (150 each on Wikipedia and Wikidata)
- Number of repeat participants (for projects that include a series of events)= 130
