This contest is aimed at improving existing wikipedia articles that lack verifiable sources with properly cited verifiable source. It is also an avenue to introduce many people residing in Cross river (especially NYSC youth corps member) to wikipedia as many of them do not know they can edit Wikipedia. Wikipedia is really lacking visibility presence in Cross River and this contest would bridge that gap.

Activities

edit

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:
1. What content will the contest focus on, and why is it important to your community?

The contest is focused on adding verifiable sources to Wikipedia articles that are lacking verifiable sources. Majority of the participants are NYSC youth corpers currently serving in Cross- River, this is an avenue of promoting Wikipedia to them and also the residents of Cross River, many of which do not know that they can edit Wikipedia articles. This contest is important to my community as it would recruit many of the editors to the community.

2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You are required to provide links to on-wiki pages to inform these communities about your proposed work. Examples of places where this can be done include community discussion pages, affiliate discussion pages, or relevant project talk pages.
You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.

Yes, I have dropped a notification on the talk page of WUGN

3. How will you let participants know about the contest? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

Participants would be notified by WhatsApp and Facebook platforms. The Nysc corps member would also be notified during their CDS and clearance meetings.

4. How will you judge the contest and award prizes?
Note: Grantees, judges, and other contest leaders are ineligible to receive prizes. Grantees who are serving as judges may not receive gifts through grant funding.

The contest would be judged through a point based system. Points would be awarded for each quality sources added to each articles. Prize would be awarded to the winners after the contest. Outreach dashboard would also be used to track metrics

5. For photo contests, what is the strategy to get images used on projects?

6. Are you running any in-person events or activities? If so, you will need to complete the steps outlined on the Risk Assessment protocol related to COVID-19. When you have completed these steps, please provide a link to your completed copy of the risk assessment tool below:

Yes. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1kr6KGe_JXIDv07VThb-IXxiDsaZ3HfuaAC0aYprmODA/edit?usp=sharing

7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

This project would improve the visibility of Wikipedia in Cross River State. Many of the residents in the state currently have no idea that they can edit Wikipedia and this contest would drive their enthusiasm high as they would be making quality edits and their contribution would actually matter. Since it is quite easy and they would rarely have their edits reversed, I feel this is a good way of promoting editing of Wikipedia to them. There would be two trainings for the participants in order for the to have the skills needed to make useful contributions

Impact

edit

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets and feel free to add more:

  1. Number of events: 2 training events for the participants
  2. Number of participants: 30
  3. Number of new editors: 25
  4. Number of articles created or improved: at least 100
  5. Increase in page views
