Goals
editDid you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?
- Yes, I met most of the goals I set. I might not have reached the number of events I wanted to achieve but I was able to deliver the idea on a wide scale of people and the targeted number of articles within a very short time.
Outcome
editPlease report on your original project targets.
Target outcome | Achieved outcome | Explanation |
Partner I: The United Nations World Food Programme= 1,000 articles from September to December 2018. | One event with 200 new volunteers offline and 300 volunteers on the 3rd of October, 2018. The second event attended by 250 new volunteers in Bibliotheca Alexandrina on the 9th of December 2018, 1000 articles on food security and SDG number 2: Zero Hunger, 2 events
Partner II: UNESCO. 50 Volunteers, 70 Articles, 2 Events | 25 Volunteers, 70 Articles, 1 event at the American University in Cairo (AUC) on the 24th of September, 2018.
Partner III: National Council for Women, 200 Volunteers, 200 Articles. | A partnership with The League of Arab States, 100 volunteers, 58 articles, 1 event | Change of venue was the reason we could not accept more volunteers and the editathon time was too short since it was the launching ceremony of the 16 Days of Activism. |
Partner IV: UN Women Regional Office for the Arab States. 500 Volunteers, 500 New Articles on Arabic Wikipedia, 20 Events | Partnerships with UNFPA, UNDP, WFP, Wikimedia Tunisia, Wikimedia Morocco, YPeer, UNWomen Morocco, Embassy of Japan, Embassy of Canada, 355 Volunteers, 682 articles, 6 events. | could not achieve the expected number of events due to lack time. The bright side we achieved the targeted number of articles. |
Please find the list of articles achieved by theme. Here.
Learning
editProjects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:
- What worked well?
- I had plenty of partners on board this time, one example is the League of Arab States, it is the first time in the league to host similar event to talk about women's visibility.
- For the first time I was able to coordinate with different Wikimedia affiliates.
- What did not work so well?
- I thought I will be able to have more events, but it was not as easier as I thought.
- What would you do differently next time?
- I could have planned earlier.
Finances
editGrant funds spent
editPlease describe how much grant money you spent for approved expenses, and tell us what you spent it on.
- The grant was the amount of $2000 to run the project for three months for a project manager role. During these three months I was responsible for:
- Managing a team of 30 core team members in HerStory, each member manages from 10 to 50 volunteers,
- Coordinating with Wikimedia affiliates in Tunisia and Morocco to host HerStory at their countries,
- Engaged +600 volunteers online and offline to translate +1700 articles,
- Managing partners from UN agencies to host and fund HerStory: UNDP, UNFPA, UNESCO, WFP, UN Women.
Remaining funds
editDo you have any remaining grant funds?
- No, I do not have.
