Goals
editDid you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?
Yes, we were able to meet our goals. We were able to recruit new editors and also increase the skill of existing editors.
New editors were able to learn how to contribute to Wikipedia, they were happy to know more about Wikipedia.
Outcome
editPlease report on your original project targets. Please be sure to review and provide metrics required for Rapid Grants.
Target outcome | Achieved outcome | Explanation |
Number of events= 3 | 3 | We held 2 physical training and editathon, we also held a virtual follow-up to check up on editors. |
Number of participants= 25 | 25 | The target was achieved. |
Number of new editors= 15 | 15 | This is the first of its kind in Osun State and all editors were delighted to know about the Wikipedia and other projects. |
Number of of articles created or improved= 80+ | 52 articles were created, 209 articles were improved and 572 references were added. | It was encouraging to have all participants participate in contributing. |
Number of repeat participants (for projects that include a series of events)= 15 | 20 | 80 per cent of people that attended the training session also participated in the edit-a-thon. |
Learning
editProjects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:
- What worked well?
We were able to accomplish some of objectives, thanks to people's interest in Wikipedia, which made the event a success for both the organizers and the participants.
Everyone, especially the new participants, appreciated the atmosphere, which encouraged them to invite others and share the Wikimedia foundation's mission statement with their acquaintances. We were successful in enlisting volunteers who have the skills and willingness to contribute to Wikipedia's growth.
- What did not work so well?
We could not find a fast network provider before we could find a network provider that performs better at the event, we had to switch providers roughly thrice. Being the first Wikipedia event to be held in Osun State, Nigeria, it was a bit strenuous to get participants because almost all of them were hearing about Wikipedia for the first time.
- What would you do differently next time?
Before renting a space, careful examination would be done to determine the network provider that operates best in the location. Participants will be permitted to discuss their experiences and difficulties during the ensuing training and editathon so that others can learn and gain a better grasp of what Wikipedia is all about and how to make better contributions.
