Learning

edit

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • Nothing went as planned. A short summary.
With the initial delay, I had a shorter reaction and had to rush the script.
I record the videos in Brazil, as it seems to be a better illustration of a course in Brazilian Portuguese. I used the Canon 80D, the camera of the Wikimedia movement, and it had a big issue, one card slot, the card failed and I lost a lot of records, in a short time there, I could not reshoot the ones I lost, but I could record in a studio, not in a location, some of it.
Back in Canada, I asked friends to record and send me some B-rolls, which took some time, and the result was below what I expected, probably because of my communication.
I then, the big mistake...
As I wrote here that I would use some Canadian editors, and well, I did, I made the first cut, and delivered it to another editor, based only on the portfolio, to him to finish inserting the motion graphics... it was expansive, poorly made, not in time, I requested some changes, and he stopped to respond me, and did not give me back the HD.
So now I had to redo the first cut, right? Wrong... now the money for the project is already in the red, and I am investing from my pocket, and I noticed some missing audio, that I may only leave in the HD, and as it has been 4 months since the guy disappeared, I will have to reshoot. And I am without a camera that could record a video of the necessary quality (you may notice the lack of my photos in Commons).
I change the strategy and will record videos more dynamically, so I am rewriting, and test recording with my phone.
By July I have to finish this, or I will go crazy. So the new deadline for the report I imagine that August of 2023 is feasible.
What I gain? I gained some grey hair, some new words in French and English, understood how to create a police report in Canada, and how it is worth zero, and I noticed the quality of video editing for short films in Brazil.
