Goals
editDid you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?
- Yes, we met all my goals and I am happy with how the project went
Outcome
editPlease report on your original project targets. Please be sure to review and provide metrics required for Rapid Grants.
Target outcome | Achieved outcome | Explanation |
Create one short duration (2-5 minutes) awareness video about Yoruba Wikipedia. | Two versions of the awareness video about Yoruba Wikipedia were created | We created two versions of the same video 2min:30 sec version for Twitter and 5min:49sec version for Facebook and both were uploaded to Commons. |
At least 10,000 views in Twitter and Facebook for the video. | The videos have a total of 67,600 views on Facebook and Twitter | We shared the shorter version on Twitter since Twitter does not accept videos longer than 2min:20secs |
25% increase of new editors. | More than 25 viewers of the video have expressed interest in joining the Yoruba Wikipedia as contributors | We tried a new experiment. We prepared a Google form to collect contact information of viewers who are interested in joining Yoruba Wikipedia. surprisingly that worked. We am planning to train these people as soon as possible. I will report the success here after the training |
25% increase of site views. | There is no significant increase in site view | The amount budgeted for the video promotion is too small. From the promotion insight on Facebook and Twitter, the video reached a total of 218.28K but only a total of 68.6K People viewed the video. This number of viewership may not result in large increase in site views as shown in the site-view analytical data and the promotion insight below. Perhaps we should promote this video with a more higher budget (USD 1,000 or more?) |
At least 3 people contributed to the video | More than 5 people contributed to the video | There were input from ace filmmaker, en:Tunde Kelani and that worked well for the video |
Learning
editProjects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:
- What worked well?
- Timely disbursement of fund by the WMF
- Communication with Yoruba film actors. Tunde Kelani and Dr. Joke Muyiwa (Ph. D) were wonderful and pleasant people.
- The film producer was full of energy and did a great job.
- The scripting was interesting and fun
- The documentation of our work plan and timeline worked well.
- We have more than enough Yoruba-related freely licensed for use on the videos
- What did not work so well?
Our past experience with working on similar videos was really helpful as we have a clear idea of what could work or not. There was no enough budget for the promotion.
- What would you do differently next time?
- The amount budgeted for the video promotion is too small. From the promotion insight on Facebook and Twitter, the video reached a total of 218.28K but only a total of 68.6K People viewed the video. There is no way this amount of engagement would result in a significant site views as shown in the site-view analytical data and the promotion insight below.
