Grants:Project/Rapid/Tomo suzuki/Wikimedia Foundation Elections 2021 JAWP Outreach Campaign
Project Goal
edit- The Japanese Wikipedia community has the fifth largest eligible voters for Wikimedia Foundation elections, yet the voter turnout has been low (less than 5% at previous election), and the community has been underrepresented at previous elections. Through this grant, I commit myself to translate fundamental documents to facilitate understanding of the WMF and participation to the upcoming election among the Japanese Wikipedia community, which would contribute to improve the turnout and form a more diverse and better performing Board of Trustees.

- As a member of Election Volunteers team, my primary focus is to localize the following time-sensitive documents in partnership with a professional translator who is willing to take all of the below mentioned time-critical tasks and related materials at a reduced cost. Election Outreach Insights found taht "Localized promotional campaigns are a strong way to inform people about the Board, elections, and candidates," while some foundational documents, such as WMF Bylaws, have not been officially translated in Japanese in the past due to their complexity. Upon completion of the project, the community has a professionally translated election tools and documents which can be used for future activities as well.
