Goals

edit

Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?

Wikimedia Community User Group Georgia this year already for a second time held an international photo contest "Wiki Loves Earth 2018 in Georgia". During the contest more than 900 photos were uploaded, which is 100 more than last year. 35 participants took part in the competition, from where 25 (71%) were registered after the start of the competition.

So, our goals:

  1. To engage new and existing members of the community: We completely got what we expected, as out of 35 participants 25 participants were new. The remaining 10, two were former participants, who last year won prizes.
  2. To increase the number of freely licensed and quality images of national parks, protected areas and nature of Georgia to Wikimedia Commons: During the contest more than 900 freely licensed images were uploaded.
  3. To spread awareness about Wikimedia projects in Georgia: The top-5 entrants got the contest T-shirt and the winners received vouchers.

Outcome

edit

Please report on your original project targets.

Target outcome Achieved outcome Explanation
Number of participants: 15 35 More than we expected
Number of photos uploaded to Wikimedia Commons: 500 967 Also more than we expected
Number of photos used on Wikimedia projects: 40-60 113 This number will still grow

Learning

edit

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well?
The process of the contest itself, as well as the evaluation process was successful, without any non-incidental events. Organizers could almost contact all contest participants, except for the third place holder. Quickly were able to reward all the winners.
  • What did not work so well?
Unfortunately we could not contact the owner of the third place, by July 25 he had not filled out all the necessary forms to receive the prize.
  • What would you do differently next time?
The next time, before the end of the competition, we'll scramble to establish all the necessary contacts with the participants, so that in the future there will not be any problem cases.
