Goals

edit

Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?

The project focused on increasing wikidata participation, recruiting new editors, increasing skills for existing editors, but most importantly Add or improve the number of Nigerian hospitals in wikidata. And in that regard, I can boldly say YES the project goals were met, and I am happy with the outcome.

Learning

edit

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well?

1. Running the challenge concurrently with the training as well as having a weekly task for participants was a great idea as it gave room for participants to add content in a competitive spirit as well as ask questions where and whenever they get stuck. This was instrumental in improving participants engagements with the project.

2. Also subsidizing internet subscription for all participants was a huge motivation which ensured the repeat of participants to all the events.

3. Recording each of the training live sessions and posting it on our project page was a great idea, as it was helpful in combating the network challenges some of our participants where experiencing during the sessions. it was also helpful as it serves as reference for participants who missed the previous session or needed a reminder of the previous session.

  • What did not work so well?

1. Introducing "How to query wikidata using SPAQL programming language" was a bit of a challenge because most of the participants had little to no knowledge of SPAQL programming.

2. some of the participants that joined the project at the later part of it felt there was no need joining the challenge as they felt they were already late to be amongst the top 3 editors.

  • What would you do differently next time?

1. Aside from the prices for the top 3 editors, having a gift/souvenir such as branded T-shirts, branded mugs, etc. for all active participants (i.e participants that adds content/make edits) will encourage even the participants joining the project at the later part, to making edits. The souvenir will also serve as a reminder of the project to the participants. Thereby encouraging participants to continue adding content/making edits even after the project.
