Goals
editDid you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?
Yes!
We hosted 8 editathons and had a good mix of both new editors and existing editors. Recruiting online mentors was also very helpful. They followed-up with editors between sessions and helped monitor their articles. It took longer that we expected for new people to learn the basic skills to create new articles, so we focused our efforts on helping them add sources or edit existing articles but lateron they joined up on creating new articles in Swahili language.
Outcome
editPlease report on your original project targets. Please be sure to review and provide metrics required for Rapid Grants.
Target outcome | Achieved outcome | Explanation |
6 Events (5 in-person & 1 Online | 9 Events (5 in-person & 4 Online) | The targeted outcome was 6 events but we did 3 more online events to provide training to the users and rectify together the articles they created. |
25-30 participants | 35 Participants | We had 25 new editors joining the team and 2 experienced editors who participated irectly to the event. However we had others editors from Tanzania User Group and Arusha User Group who participated on providing training. We had 8 participants who attended the in-person events but couldn't join the program as editors thus summing the number to 35 participants. |
25 New Editors | 25 New Editors | |
350 Number of Articles created or improved | 350 Number of Articles created or improved | The targeted outcome was accomplished. 350 new articles were created: See the articles we worked on via https://outreachdashboard.wmflabs.org/courses/UniStu_Love_Wiki/UniStu_Love_Wiki_June-August_2021/articles/edited |
15 Repeating participants | 25 Repeating participants | We were able to have more repeating participants to keep on coming back to our events and keep on contributng by keeping close communicatio with them and providing more support when needed. |
Learning
editProjects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:
- What worked well?
Comming together is University Students from different University was something that broke the difference between them. The intaraction created a bond that made more Students want to join the program. We also had few non-student editors who wanted to join the program of which we opened doors for them to join.
- What did not work so well?
Due to that our team was well organized we were able handle things correctly, the only challenges faced is that we had many people wanting to join the in-person event (1st Event) but we were unable to host them due to the limit of the budget. However, we hosted a number exceeding the budget somehow so as to have them join the program of which affected the approved budget.
- What would you do differently next time?
Talking of next time, we are focused on limiting the number of participants before the event. We will provide coupons if needed to do so for the participating participants so as to avoid any inconviniences that might be caused.
Finances
editGrant funds spent
editPlease describe how much grant money you spent for approved expenses, and tell us what you spent it on.
- Foods and Drinks = $ 1,020
- Working space (venue) for 6 events = $600
- Transport reimbursement for 35 participants = $280
- Internet support = $70
- Online Subscription (zoom) = $14.99
TOTAL SPENDINGS: 1,984.99 USD
NB:- We had a budget overdraft by $184.99 which was spent from our teams' own pockets so as to cover the expenses. This was due to the online subscription which we had to pay for so as to get more features (time) for our meetings, and also participants who attended the events but never wanted to join the program again due to different reason the common one being the lack of resources like laptops and smartphones.
Remaining funds
editDo you have any remaining grant funds?
Currently we do not have any remaing funds for all the approved funds we used respectively.
