Goals
editDid you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?
Being the first project ever conducted by the WMROMD-UG, we consider that it met its main objective, namely to initiate the process for increasing the percentage of female contributors at the Romanian Wikipedia, over the next three years.
The main achievement of the project is that we identify a nucleus of female editors that are interested and eager for further involvements in Wikipedia projects.
A bias remain the low rate of participation, the main reason for this (as resulted from feed-back) being the reticence of the potential female editors to start contributing at Wikipedia. Even if we targeted our potential audience (universities, NGOs, etc.) When we manage to easy the crossing of this barrier (especially by person to person work), we were successfully.
Also, our lack of experience as organizers of this kind of activities made our work a little bit harder, especially in the incipient phase of the project.
Outcome
editPlease report on your original project targets.
Target outcome | Achieved outcome | Explanation |
Encourage potential female contributors to participate and recruiting new editors | Achieved | During the project we conducted a series of off- and on-line dedicated activities as follow:
The main instrument to promote our initiative was the Facebook page of the User Group. We had an aggregate reach of 65,100 people, with 1,037 people that declare that they are interested or will participate in the event. The overall number of participants, both for off- and on-line, was 68, 42 of them being new editors. |
Developing skills for existing editors | Achieved. | We dedicated focused training sessions for the existing editors, based on their specific requests. Right now we had a female editor that met the requirements for being an User Group member and a couple of other close to meet the requirements for automatic patrol. |
Creating and developing articles about Romanian and Moldovan women personalities | Achieved. | A total number of 282 new articles dedicate to feminine personalities were created. |
Demonstrating and learning how collective editing works | Achieved. | There were delivered special dedicated presentations during each editathon. |
Providing quality training and support for the new editors | Achieved. | There were conducted training workshops at the beginning of each editathon. Beside, a dedicated training workshop for this project was conducted on the occasion of other activity from project „Centenar Romania” |
Developing a friendly and collaborative work environment | Achieved. | We observe the friendly space policy. The atmosphere was good and friendly at all activities. |
Learning
editProjects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:
- What worked well?
- Most of the things worked according to plan:
- proper locations
- good level of support for the participants
- manage to conduct and coordinate activities in three different cities (București, Chișinău and Cluj) from two different countries (Romania and Moldovia)
- interchanging of female editors from Romania and Moldova
- openness and receptivity for Wikimedia and WMROMD projects
- Most of the things worked according to plan:
- What did not work so well?
- Some things we could do better:
- the overall number of participants was lower than our expectation
- advertising and promoting in media, as we rely mainly only on the Facebook page
- some minor organization details due to our lack of experience
- Some things we could do better:
- What would you do differently next time?
- Some intentions for our further projects:
- go more specific and more targeted on the potential editors
- increase the synergy with other projects conducted by the WMROMD and use their potential for attracting new female editors
- make a better advertising and use a more diverse channels of communication
- involve an increase number of editors in organizing the off-line activities
- Some intentions for our further projects:
