Goals
editDid you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?
Not exactly.
We hold WAM Edit-a-thons in three cities in Taiwan: Oct. 15th in National Taiwan University (Taipei), Nov. 5th in National Tsing-Hua University (Hsinchu), and Nov. 19 in Chung Shan Medical University (Taichung). Number of participants didn't reach our goals, but most of them like our edit-a-thon.
Outcome
editPlease report on your original project targets.
Target outcome | Achieved outcome | Explanation |
Number of events: 3 | 3 | Reached. We have agreed upon having 3 events with local communities, so these events can be hosted successfully. |
Number of participants: 60 |
24 | Not reached. The reasons for lower participants in National Taiwan University is that we request participants to pay for their own lunch, and the administrator in Chung Shan Medical University suddenly changed the policy in the campus to limit only the students can participate. Due to above reasons, the number of participants is less then we expected. |
Number of new editors: 40 | 7 | Not reached. Less participants, so less new editors. |
Number of of articles created or improved: 60 | 10 | Not reached. |
Number of repeat participants (for projects that include a series of events): 20 | 7 | Not reached. |
Learning
editProjects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:
- What worked well?
- In the event of NTU, we ordered East-south foods as lunch and afternoon tea because of our theme. It got the highest score in feedback. Maybe we can try more ideas about food instead of pizza or fast-food next time.
- We put some eazy documents about how to edit Wikipedia on our leaflet, and participants said that is helpful.
- What did not work so well?
- Cooperation with school was not enough, or more students will see our event.
- According to our questionnaire, participants didn't believe their article can pass the standards of Wikipedia.
- What would you do differently next time?
- We should build an standard operational process on school teachers so they can convince students to join the editathon with them.
- Apart from the demo article and learning manual, we can do this time - It might be easier for participants to follow an sheet of Q&As on wiki, so the participants can fill in the blanks of the sheet and then generate the draft of their Wikipedia articles.
