editTell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:
1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?
- We would like to organize a month-long online edit-a-thon in April 2021 on the Uzbek Wikipedia to create new content and improve existing articles about Central Asian topics.
2. How will you let your community know about the event? Please paste links below to where relevant communities have been notified of your proposal, and to any other relevant community discussions.
- We have created a project page on the Uzbek Wikipedia and Meta. Additionally, once the the contest starts we will notify all users of the Uzbek Wikipedia with the help of project-wide notifications. We will also inform users through our pages on social media, in particular facebook.com/uzbek.wikipedia, twitter.com/uzbekwikipedia, t.me/uzwikichat and t.me/uzbekwikipedia.
3. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event?
- Yes, namely:
- Asadbek Botirqulov: co-organized the 2020 Wikipedia Book Month as well as the Wiki Loves Caucasus 2020 on the Uzbek Wikipedia; founding member of the Wikimedians of the Uzbek language User Group
- Jamshid Nurkulov: founding member of the Wikimedians of the Uzbek language User Group
- Malikxan: co-organized the 2020 Wikipedia Book Month and the Wiki Loves Caucasus 2020 on the Uzbek Wikipedia; founding member of the Wikimedians of the Uzbek language User Group
- Nataev: co-organized the 2020 Wikipedia Book Month on the Uzbek Wikipedia; founding member of the Wikimedians of the Uzbek language User Group; longtime Wikimedian
4. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?
- Organizers of the edit-a-thon and contributor's to the Uzbek Wikipedia at large have access to necessary equipment and possess the skills needed to participate in the 2021 Wikipedia Central Asian Month and contribute high quality content.
5. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?
- We have created a project page on the Uzbek Wikipedia as well as on Meta. We plan to notify all users of the Uzbek Wikipedia with the help of banners. In addition, we are going to actively promote the contest through our pages on social media, in particular facebook.com/uzbek.wikipedia, twitter.com/uzbekwikipedia, t.me/uzwikichat and t.me/uzbekwikipedia. Finally, we are planning to send individual invitations to active users of the Uzbek Wikipedia.
6. Are you running any in-person events or activities? If so, you will need to complete the steps outlined on the Risk Assessment protocol related to COVID-19. When you have completed these steps, please provide a link to your completed copy of the risk assessment tool below:
- The edit-a-thon will be an entirely online event.
7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?
- We have been discussing the logistics and other aspects of the contest in the Telegram group of the Wikimedians of the Uzbek language User Group.
Impact
editHow will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets:
- Number of events: 1
- Number of participants: 15
- Number of new editors: 5-7
- Number of of articles created or improved: at least 100

Resources
editWhat resources do you have? Include information on who is organizing the project, what they will do, and if you will receive support from anywhere else (in-kind donations or additional funding).
- This is the very first grant application we have put together since the Wikimedians of the Uzbek language User Group was officially recognized in December of 2020. Therefore, we are very excited to receive our very first grant. The contest is being organized by four seasoned users of the Uzbek Wikipedia, who between them have successfully run and participated in several contests in the past. Still, we would appreciate any help and guidance from experienced Wikimedians on how we can make our contest successful.
