With inspiration from the Climate & Development Knowledge Network, it's a known fact that many of those in the climate change community especially female - practitioners, researchers, communicators, community organisers - are not making use of climate change information more freely available to the general public and robust. This project seeks to include voices and contributions from Ghanaians to make Wikipedia more relevant in content for the SDGs.

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

There would (1)training and (1)edit-a thon, Virtual check-ins and a contest. Edits will be tracked using a dashboard.

2. How will you let your community know about the event? Please paste links below to where relevant communities have been notified of your proposal, and to any other relevant community discussions.

The project will be announced on all social media and each partnered organization will announce it on their various channels. Also through media channels like Citifm, Radio Universe and African mailing list. A Telegram group has been created for the participants of the edit-a thon and further announcement will be shared via the telegram group of Wikimedia for Sustainable Development User Group.

3. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event?

  • Joy Agyepong an experienced wikimedian/ environmental advocate and long time contributor who has served as a an executive and has the capacity and experience to lead as the project/ Coordinator. She has managed many diverse projects successfully. An example is Women of the Wiki program on gender gap.
  • Nii Commey known as user:Cnii an active Wikimedian and would be technical lead/key project manager.
  • Daniel Anyorigya known as user:Daniel Anyorigya who will be responsible for online communication and reporting. He is also a climate change activist and an active Wikipedian.
  • Stella Agbley known as user:SAgbley has over 5years as a Wikimedian trainer and she would handle administration and event planning.
  • Edapa Annie an avid contributor and would handle resources and community engagement.

4. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

Participants have the necessary computer devices for the project as that's part of the requirements and they will be provided with data scholarships for participating in the edit-a-thons.

5. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

A Telegram group has been set up for all participants to talk and share ideas to encourage new recruits. Also, a post event questionnaire/ survey will be sent to get their needs to sustain their interest and contributions.

6. Are you running any in-person events or activities? If so, you will need to complete the steps outlined on the Risk Assessment protocol related to COVID-19. When you have completed these steps, please provide a link to your completed copy of the risk assessment tool below:

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets:

  1. Number of events - 3 (training, online edit -a-thon & contest)

  5. Number of repeat participants (for projects that include a series of events)

What resources do you have? Include information on who is organizing the project, what they will do, and if you will receive support from anywhere else (in-kind donations or additional funding).

This edit-a-thon is being organised by the Wiki Hour, an initiative of Joy Agyepong a long time Wikimedia leader and contributor with over 4years experience. The Wiki Hour seeks to draw both newbies and experieneced Wikimedians across Ghana who are actively online and give off an hour or two to contribute to wikipedia on a weekly basis. She is also an Environmental activists leading a several organisations in relation to SDGs and Fact-checking.

What resources do you need? For your funding request, list bullet points for each expense and include a total amount.

  • Data scholarship - participants who have a need for data support (USD300). This will be approximately $10 each for an estimation of 25 participants. However, an extra $50 has been set aside to take care of any extra support for increased participation and transfer charges. Hence $10*25= $250 + $50 = $300
  • Communication & design - Engagement time, promotional materials, boosting and design (USD150)
  • Jury - This comprises of cost of gift and internet expense to Jury (USD200)
  • Administrative expense - This will support the team for their internet/gift voucher (USD250)
  • Awards - Certificates and Gift, vouchers for top 5 high contributors (USD300)
  • Space rental and food- This will serve as an information synthesis that is the meeting of the team to synthesise information for the report. The cost here is for only securing a place and provide food for the working meeting (USD200)
  • Bank charges - Transfers and Reimbursement charges (USD20)
