Wiki Loves Folklore in Local Television

What did not work so well?

  • Our international prizes for Wiki Loves Folklore were less as compared to that of other competition.
  • We couldn't support community which needed translation from English to French
  • Local prizes for Feminism and Folklore were very less as compared to other writing competition
  • We had limited resources for awareness and engagement with local NGOs and cultural heritage partners round the globe.
  • We could only help participants with digital postcards and couldn't deliver them physical postcard as postal system were closed.
  • War in Ukraine shook the project as many European participants were in rescue efforts.
  • Increasing dollar prizes made grant money of less worth while actual distribution of prizes.
  • We had issues while doing prize distribution for winners from sanction countries.

What would you do differently next time?

  • We are going to take a general support grant next year. Allocate funds appropriately and increase the amounts and number of winners for winners as well as budget.
  • We are going to send physical postcards to participants.
  • We will coordinate with various Wikimedia chapters and local NGO of different countries to participate in next year contest.
  • We will have provision in the grants which will be able to provide stipend to users who need internet support for jury of Wiki Loves Folklore and Feminism and Folklore.
  • As requested in the previous two iterations, we will hire a French interpreter for our meetings with French-speaking community coordinators for the next iteration.
  • Send goodies and Tshirt gift, physical certificates, hampers to jury and national as well as international coordinators and members of international Team for their efforts for the project.
  • Have dedicated email/chat/chatbot support for users who need help for creating of articles and uploading of images.
