Goals
editDid you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?
We met our goals in terms of the number of pictures and participants: we received a total of 1085 pictures from 92 participants. We are happy with the results, although we would have liked more pictures of monuments not yet photographed.
Outcome
editPlease report on your original project targets.
Target outcome | Achieved outcome | Explanation |
Number of participants: at least 50 | 92 participants | the contest had a good reception within the professional and amateur local photograph community |
Number of photos uploaded to Wikimedia Commons: at least 1000 | 1085 pictures received | the promotion of the contest started since mid August to September 2016. |
Number of photos used on Wikimedia projects: at least 50 | between 50 and 60 (don't have the exact number) | I personally picked pictures from the contest and inserted in Wikipedia articles, mainly in Spanish Wikipedia, but in other languages too |
Learning
editProjects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:
- What worked well?
Good reception from the public.
- What did not work so well?
We received less pictures than in 2012 and 2013. In 2013 we received 1880 and in 2012 we received 2499 pictures.
- What would you do differently next time?
I think we started promoting the contest a bit late (mid August) and we announced the prizes during the contest in September. This might have discouraged people from participating.

Remaining funds
editDo you have any remaining grant funds?
We could not plan the exhibition of the winning pictures during November and December. These months are usually very busy in most institutions because of the end of the year celebrations so it was hard to set up meetings to propose a WLM winners exhibition. If approved, we would like to plan the exhibition and spend this amount for printing during March, so we can exhibit the pictures in April, around the worldwide day of monuments (April 18th) declared by UNESCO.
Anything else
editAnything else you want to share about your project?
We were very excited to have one of our finalist among the top 15 worldwide.
