Goals
editDid you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?
Yes, pretty much we're happy with the overall success of the event. However, we had some challenges while developing the activity, we believe it was mostly a success.
Outcome
editPlease report on your original project targets. Please be sure to review and provide metrics required for Rapid Grants.
Target outcome | Achieved outcome | Explanation |
30 | Yes | We got to organize more than 4 events instead of the 2 that were planned at first. Mostly because the planned dates coincided with
COVID-19 peaks in our region which in turn made everything more difficult. Here are the links to the online forms where people registered their participation. |
10 | more than 10 | More than 10 artícles were edited and adopted that day. However, due to a misunderstanding with zoom account owner, we couldn't catch the names of the articles. We learned from this experience and have improved the way we can keep track of the articles people edit when we hold an online editing session. We usually welcome and message our new editors and make edits on the articles with the hashtag to make sure we are able to report it later. |
Learning
editProjects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:
- What worked well?
- The events as such. People that participated in previous activities wanted to participate as well as other regular volunteers. It also helped strengthen the ties among the group. We belive this was a turning point for our group and cheered everyone up in spite of the pandemics.
- What did not work so well?
- Some reporting didn't work well. We got too excited on how the meeting was going. We relied on the zoom chat conversation to help report some of the articles that were going to be edited, however, due to a misunderstanding on how the platform works, we lost the chat. We found some links to the articles the group edited, but couldn't find all of them. Sadly, both our events coincided with Covid-19 peaks in our country, which in turn made difficult to report the event timely.
- What would you do differently next time?
- We actually have learned from this event and we now welcome our news users with the tag so we can follow their work on Wikipedia without having to add the burden of using a tag. We understand new users may be more interested in editing, and should focus on one task only.
- We would love to have more people engaged on wiki activities so more articles are edited. We are considering a month long edit marathon, similar to regular contests held on Wikipedia.
Finances
editGrant funds spent
editPlease describe how much grant money you spent for approved expenses, and tell us what you spent it on.
-
- Connection reimbursment: 256$
- Child-care: 40$
- Mementos: 496$
- Graphic design: 200$
Remaining funds
editDo you have any remaining grant funds?
Yes, we do. We have $808 money remaining, and would like to use it for an upcoming project.
Anything else
editAnything else you want to share about your project?
I'd like to learn from other initiatives regarding yearly celebrations online. I understand that meeting in person is always better, but it's not something we can easily achieve. Due to the pandemic, access to online conferencing tools is now more widespread, and online celebrations may become a suitable option for our group.
Project Goal
editBriefly explain what are you trying to accomplish with this project, or what do you expect will change as a result of this grant. Example goals include, "recruit new editors", "add high quality content", or "train existing editors on a specific skill".
- We want to get together online to discuss about our projects and celebrate Wikipedia's 20th anniversary. Also, to plan our next steps as a user group.
Project Plan
editActivities
editTell us how you'll carry out your project. What will you and other organizers spend your time doing?
- User's group online meeting to celebrate Wikipedia's 20 years
- Online seminar about Wikipedia and how it came to be.
- Online workshop for women to edit Wikipedia.
How will you let others in your community know about your project (please provide links to where relevant communities have been notified of your proposal, and to any other relevant community discussions)? Why are you targeting a specific audience?
- We will send an invitation to Wikimedistas de Bolivia mailing list. Also, we will set up the site notice to get wikipedians from all over Bolivia to participate.
What will you have done at the end of your project? How will you follow-up with people that are involved with your project?
- We will have gathered around 40 people to talk about Wikipedia. We will likely edit 10 new articles. Also, we will follow their development and invite them to other events.
Are you running any in-person events or activities? If so, you will need to complete the steps outlined on the Risk Assessment protocol related to COVID-19. When you have completed these steps, please provide a link to your completed copy of the risk assessment tool below:
- No, the event will be held online.

Resources

- We will hold two events, one for everyone to learn how Wikipedia came to be. It will be online and open for registration for online certificates. The other one will be an online workshop for a reduced number of women. Childcare will be offered. Finally, we will hold an online event to celebrate Wikipedia's 20 anniversary. We will offer childcare as well, and also T-shirts and stickers for the volunteers. We will write a press release for media in our country to spread the word about Wikipedia, and invite people to participate in our online event through social networks and on TV and radio as well.
