Goals
editDid you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went? Yes to both. Patients got treatment, clinicians used offline Wikipedia, the offline Wikipedia worked in the field, and similar projects are ongoing.
The most significant indication of success is ongoing Wikimedia community participation in the development of Internet-in-a-Box with Kiwix - Wikipedia Offline. This has become more important now that the comparable wmf:Wikipedia Zero is closed. Offline access through phones might now be the only Wikimedia community initiative to deliver Wikimedia content to places where Internet connectivity is difficult to access.
Outcome

Target outcome | Achieved outcome | Explanation |
Number of total participants | more than 10 physicians serving hundreds of patients all used the device and Wikipedia | This is the best outcome. The device worked in the field and health care providers used it. |
Number of articles created or improved (if applicable) | 0 | Wikipedia article editing was not a target for this project. |
Number of photos uploaded to Wikimedia Commons (if applicable) | 7 and the report file here for anyone to share | |
Number of photos used on Wikimedia projects (if applicable) | 0 | The photos here are documentary and for Wikipedia community discussion and outreach. |
Develop other offline Wikipedia outreach projects | Yes, my collaboration including Columbia University graduate students and Mt. Sinai Hospital clinicians is ongoing en:Wikipedia:Offline Internet Resources for Latin America | I did outreach to an offline area in Greece, but the model of bringing a device with English and local language content works in many places |
Propose sessions on offline Wikipedia's medical content at Wikimania 2018 | Yes, the medicine track is developing and offline Wikipedia distribution is a focus | there is broad community interest in getting real-life reports of how clinicians can use offline medical information |
Seek Wikimedia community documentation and reporting of efforts to development Wikipedia medical content | Yes |

Learning
editProjects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:
- What worked well?
- Wikipedia itself works well. When people can actually access it then they use it. This round led to more requests for the device and more presentations, such as a September 2018 presentation scheduled at the National Institutes of Health.
- What did not work so well?
- While Wikipedia's content is competitive with any other media content, the administrative support for doing anything Wikipedia is challenging. Since there is never staff support for anything, no matter how urgent the need, everyone has to play every role. My best role is as physician and demonstrating Wikipedia to other physicians. Doing marketing, documentation, learning Wikimedia communication styles, and everything except my profession is difficult for me.
- What would you do differently next time?
- I am still doing outreach! I presented offline Wikipedia in Bangladesh in March 2018! See the image. Getting help with everything is essential.
