Grants:Project/Teachers/Professors learn and participate in Wiki creation
Project idea
editWhat is the problem you're trying to solve?
editWhat problem are you trying to solve by doing this project? This problem should be small enough that you expect it to be completely or mostly resolved by the end of this project. Remember to review the tutorial for tips on how to answer this question.
Decreasing mistrust towards Wikipedia among teachers/professors by explaining creation process, correct usage pattern, and possible usage into educational process - which leads to positive involvement of young generations, to-be editors and contributors.
What is your solution?
editFor the problem you identified in the previous section, briefly describe your how you would like to address this problem. We recognize that there are many ways to solve a problem. We’d like to understand why you chose this particular solution, and why you think it is worth pursuing. Remember to review the tutorial for tips on how to answer this question.
I have already organised two on-line seminars for teachers which in two hours learn about Wiki basics. First one had 7, second already 20+ attendees. Majority was really satisfied with content and topic, which is quite away from their usual seminars visited or listened.
Price for attending was at least one picture of cultural heritage or settlement in their surroundings. Some did minimum, but some contributions were outstanding.
However, working with them requires daily work, lots of it in 9-17h time slot. During past years, these sort of outreach was more or less neglected since local Wiki community members are volunteers and just in this time slot usually at their jobs.
I am currently unemployed, so by this project I would like to compensate pressure on my income but in the meantime also performing daily hours activities which you simply cannot do if you are employed.
Project goals
editWhat are your goals for this project? Your goals should describe the top two or three benefits that will come out of your project. These should be benefits to the Wikimedia projects or Wikimedia communities. They should not be benefits to you individually. Remember to review the tutorial for tips on how to answer this question.
Goals:
- at least 10 executions of on-line seminar "How Wikipedia is made and how it can be used in educational process"; minimum is 5 attendees per seminar to be valid
- at least 500 pictures uploaded (they will be trackable through OTRS donations)
Project impact
editHow will you know if you have met your goals?
editFor each of your goals, we’d like you to answer the following questions:
- During your project, what will you do to achieve this goal? (These are your outputs.)
- Once your project is over, how will it continue to positively impact the Wikimedia community or projects? (These are your outcomes.)
For each of your answers, think about how you will capture this information. Will you capture it with a survey? With a story? Will you measure it with a number? Remember, if you plan to measure a number, you will need to set a numeric target in your proposal (e.g. 45 people, 10 articles, 100 scanned documents). Remember to review the tutorial for tips on how to answer this question.
already set in previous answer
Do you have any goals around participation or content?
editAre any of your goals related to increasing participation within the Wikimedia movement, or increasing/improving the content on Wikimedia projects? If so, we ask that you look through these three metrics, and include any that are relevant to your project. Please set a numeric target against the metrics, if applicable. Remember to review the tutorial for tips on how to answer this question.
Yes, goals are are set towards increasing participation.
Project plan
editActivities
editTell us how you'll carry out your project. What will you and other organizers spend your time doing? What will you have done at the end of your project? How will you follow-up with people that are involved with your project?
I have already listed described content into Slovene teachers' additional education catalogue (and spend time and money on that). This step is cruical in gaining their interest, since their attendance is pointed and then used for job promotions.
Then I do e-mailings to schools, tracking attendees in KATIS system used by Slovenian Ministery for education, issuing them diplomas... and uploading and dealing with their donated content
Budget
editHow you will use the funds you are requesting? List bullet points for each expense. (You can create a table later if needed.) Don’t forget to include a total amount, and update this amount in the Probox at the top of your page too!
So far, unfortunattely, it is only for my engagement. It is not high on desired ways of funding, but Slovenia has no local chapter and we (local users group meembers and community as whole) are lacking some role or projects that can be done during 9 a.m-5 p.m.
Expenses:
- 1.100 EUR per individual on-line seminar execution. This include all described activities, no matter of attendees number (e.g. if donation volume will increase)
- 5,10 EUR/ month * 12 + 22% VAT = 74,64 EUR Microsoft Teams (Microsoft 365 Business Basic) subscription one year; used by teachers, I would use the tool that they know. Account may be shared access to local community.
Community engagement
editCommunity input and participation helps make projects successful. How will you let others in your community know about your project? Why are you targeting a specific audience? How will you engage the community you’re aiming to serve during your project?
I have already announced my wish to start runing projects within 9-5 time slot. beside teachers, I am in future, planning also other projects, targeting awareness, donations,.... For some of them I will need colleagues help in extensive amount and to certain degree they are willing to help free, but knowing that I am compensated, they will want compensation as well.
However, for this project I am more or less self dependent.
Reason for specific audience is that based on micro attempts I have made in the past these teacher project yielded far better than any other.
