Per our strategic, annual, and budget plans, Black Lunch Table’s staffing plan details the descriptions, compensation, and responsibilities for each of the positions on our team.

All positions will be W9 contractors unless otherwise specified. Each position’s rate is noted within the job description. These rates reflect a change in regional proxy compensation, from a per-event rate to an hourly rate, all other position’s rates are the same as our 2018-2019 budget. The adjusted rates reflect our project assessment at the close of our 2018-19 grant cycle.

Nonprofit Consultant

Consultants would help develop strategy and sustainability for BLT. This person/firm should have a commitment and prior experience with arts nonprofits. They should also have experience and training in accounting, business strategy, management, and pr that will supplement that already within the BLT team. This position is compensated with a flat fee of $7K. This is half of the total fee, the other half is covered by other BLT funds.

Strategic

  • Develops a long-running strategic plan, including fundraising and budget advisement
  • Provides organization assessment and oversight
  • Advises board development
  • Develops long and short term project goals with the lead organizers
  • Goals should include
    • Eventual audience outcomes
    • Educational integration
    • Cross-database relationships
    • Institutional engagements/community engagements (Elks Club, community centers, etc…)
    • Sponsorship (fiscal, promotional)
    • Advisors / mentors / liaisons … How to reach and what to do with?

Lead Organizer

The lead organizer is responsible for setting and maintaining the vision of the project and connecting with partners that will support that vision. They are the intermediaries between accountants, lawyers, bookkeepers, and the BLT team and communicate the vision and direction of the project. They work to implement fundraising campaigns, staffing, and strategic plans. They act as artistic directors and curators of the project’s vision. This position is compensated at $35/hour.

Strategic

  • Maintaining and ensuring the execution of project timeline
  • Implements a long-running strategic plan, including cultivating new funding and institutional partnerships.
  • Grant authoring and fundraising
  • NFP, business structuring
  • Partnerships with other Wikipedia user groups, Glam Opportunities, Wiki Scholarship(wikibook)
  • BLT team member searches/hiring
  • Works on the digital visual direction to imagine all BLT digital/platform/archive initiatives

Communications/administration

  • Oversight and collaboration with Project Manager and Regional Proxies
  • Works with Project Manager to facilitate goals & analyze outcomes
  • Represents BLT at regional/national events
  • Spearheads new community engagements/coordinates with proxies
  • Approves events, collaborations, writing, lists, budgets
  • Develop and implement strategies with leads and proxies for editor retention
  • Event planning, training and strategizing sustainability
  • Lead monthly and weekly meetings
  • Curates guest speakers for special events and present lectures, conference panels

BLT Wikimedia Project Manager

The project manager is responsible for supporting and implementing the strategic vision set by the Lead Organizers. They are the intermediary between leads and regional proxies and institutions. The project manager is responsible for establishing systems for outreach and communication internally and externally, metrics tracking, and grant and budget reporting. They will generate best practices documents, support events and collaborate with other regional Wikipedia projects and user groups. The project manager is also expected to generate shareable content on training and organizational tips. This position is compensated at $35/hour.

Strategic

  • Support Leads with grant writing and reporting
  • Work with the accountant to help maintain the budget
  • Coordinating with other project’s Wiki-project managers

Communications/admin

  • Work closely with Leads and Proxies on all aspects of programming
  • Manage and support Regional Proxy’s engagements
  • Develop and implement strategies with leads and proxies for editor retention
  • Attend meetings with Wiki team
  • Manage shared calendar, file organization
  • Manages/generates meetup pages, queries, outreach dashboard, Eventbrite, etc
  • Correspondence with institutions and partners before/during/after events, outside inquiries via email
  • Work with the accountant to help maintain the budget
  • Ambassador for the project to new audiences/publics, including presenting lectures, conference panels

BLT Regional Proxies

Regional Proxies are Wikimedians based outside of the New York/northeast and Chicago/Northern midwest areas (where BLT Lead Organizers and Project Manager are based). The role of the proxy is to help establish BLT’s Wikipedia initiative in their own community, through hosting three Wikipedia edit-a-thon events annually, developing the local editorship via training and support, and developing institutional outreach and partnerships. The proxy will also be responsible for reporting finances and metrics for their events to the BLT Project Manager.

This position is compensated at $20 hr with an expectation of each event taking 25 hours, each proxy is to complete 3 events.

Communications/admin

  • Work with BLT to develop outreach and research local organizations and groups not affiliated with BLT
  • Plan and host 3 edit-a-thons in their communities during the defined term
  • Record metrics and outreach for those edit-a-thons/areas
  • Maintain relationships with local editors, organize and lead training for organizers in their regions
  • Initiates one Wikipedia content campaign, specific to the interests of their region and BLT

BLT Project Assistant/Contractors

The project assistant or contractor role is a flexible role that allows BLT to seek the kind of support needed for multiple aspects of its growth. This role can take the form of consistent administrative support or a short term contractor for website design or additional staffing for a large institutional event.

This position is paid according to skill/project specifications.

Coder/Digital Specialist

The coder/digital specialist works on multiple fronts of the digital management and vision of the archives and platforms central to the work of BLT.

This position is compensated at a rate of $35/hour. Half of these contractors' hours are compensated through Wiki related funds the other half compensated by other BLT funds.

Development

  • Develops methodologies for Wikimedia integration into archive access
  • Works to update network archive data Metadata tagging connected to Wikidata
  • Creates data visualizations of Wiki metrics and goals
  • Keeps up to date with Wikimedia coding developments and communities
  • Assist with planning integration and cross-database relationships with other projects (using Linked Open Data)
  • Help developing coding structure that allows for community contributions / BLT app (3 years)

Accountant

The accountant works in cooperation with the lead organizers, bookkeeper, and lawyer to assist in its mission to be good stewards of the resources entrusted to Black Lunch Table (BLT).

This position is compensated with a fixed annual rate of $1,500. This is half of the total annual fee, the other half to be covered by other BLT funds.

Administration

  • Works with bookkeeper and BLT directors to compile
    • Annual NFP reports and filing for IRS and state governments
    • Annual NFP reports for the BLT board
  • Works with the bookkeeper and BLT directors to compile other relevant documents including:
    • Checklists and inquiries
    • Liabilities
    • Leases
    • Financial statement disclosures
  • Reviews general policies, accruals, and receivables, and reporting for foundations
  • Files all other financial paperwork in consultation with BLT and BLT legal staff

Bookkeeper

The bookkeeper works in cooperation with the lead organizers, accountant, and lawyer to assist in its mission to be good stewards of the resources entrusted to Black Lunch Table (BLT).

This position will be compensated at a rate of $150/month for a year. Half of these contractors' hours are compensated through Wiki related funds the other half compensated by other BLT funds.

Administration

  • Complete monthly reconciliation
  • Organizes receipts and tracks spending
  • Produce reports once a month for review by directors so they may clearly understand the financial position of BLT
  • Bring to the attention of the founders any items that could be incorrect or unusual
  • Will issue paychecks to BLT staff bi-monthly
  • Work in collaboration with the accounting team at Dorfman, Abrams, Music LLC to compile annual BLT 501c3 accounting reports

Lawyer

The lawyer is retained as a part of the larger process of transitioning and maintaining BLT’s 501c3 non-profit/tax-exempt status. Works with lead organizers, accountant, and bookkeeper to assist in its mission to be good stewards of the resources entrusted to Black Lunch Table (BLT).

This position is compensated at a yearly consultation rate of $500.This is half of the total annual consultation fee, the other half to be covered by other BLT funds.

Guest Speaker

This position accounts for the inclusion of experts outside of the BLT team to be present and participate in events. For example, inviting an archivist from a specific collection to lead a workshop or edit-a-thon that engages their expertise and knowledge.

This position is compensated according to skill/project specifications.
