WikiCon 2015 in Dresden, Germany (September 18-20, 2015)

Participant connections

It was great to meet so many dedicated Wikipedians. Of the local Wikipedians, who did a great organizing job, I especially enjoyed meeting Paulae, who had helped me several times with pictures from gravesites, and also Jbergner. I found a lot of common ground with UweRohwedder, Jonathan Groß, Carbidfischer and Tolanor, and it is always good meet folks again that I had met years before at some Stammtische like Marcus Cyron. I was fascinated to learn from WS ReNu about her video projects and her Wikimania experience, and at the Wikipedia:WikiEule 2015|presentation of the WikiOwls I was able to meet User:Qgil-WMF. About a dozen participants attended my presentation. I also enjoyed learning about Coding da Vinci, and discuss with user:Barbara_Fischer_(WMDE) ways of cooperation with libraries.

Outcome

edit

Yours truly working the Etherpad
Option 2: Learning Pattern: What is one useful learning pattern you can share with the Wikimedia movement?

https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Learning_patterns/Cooperative_note-taking_at_meetings_and_workshops This was the first time I experienced working with Etherpad. Though skeptical at first, I quickly learned how useful this tool is, and made an effort to contribute to the communal note taking.

Finances

edit

I only needed to use the airfare portion of the grant, as the accommodation was taken care of by Wikimedia Deutschland through Alice Körner (WMDE), and I was able to reach the conference venue by walking from the Hotel.
