Outcome
edit- Option 1: Shared Experience:
During Wikimania, I met with several of the Australian Wikimedians with whom I shall be collaborating during my month-long speaking tour of Australia in September 2018. During the tour, I shall be giving two conference addresses, one a closing keynote, as well as delivering a number of other talks and workshops, meeting GLAMs and academics, and attending Wikimedia meetups. My presentations will include several things that I learned about during Wikimania; in particular my new understanding of lexemes on Wikidata.
While parts of the programme are still to be confirmed, the outline is here: Wikidata Tour Down Under (2018).
Connections
editI gave a presentation on the benefits for GLAMs of engaging a Wikimedian in Residence, and assisted in delivering training, as part of the "Wikipedia 101 for Librarians". The event was attended by 20-30 south African librarians, and I am sill in touch with some of them with a view to improving coverage of South African subjects, especially wildlife, in Wikidata and sister projects.
Anything else
editI co-presented the 'WikiCite: Lifting a veil on the sources of free knowledge' session.
I was able to record the speaking voice of fellow Wikimedian Rosie Stephenson-Goodknight as part of the Voice Intro Project, so that people can hear how she pronounces her own name.
I took several hundreds of photographs, which are in my queue for uploading to Wikimedia Commons. I have uploaded some of them, such as the above picture of Amblyrhynchotes honckenii, which is now used on fourteen Wikimedia projects.
I added a number of features to the area around the venue, in OpenStreetMap; for example, the OSM object about the 'Two Minutes of Silence and Remembrance' memorial, of which I have also uploaded pictures to Commons.
During a leisure day before Wikimania, at Cape Point, I met a photographer from my home region in England(!), who specialises in photography for GLAMs and artist-makers. We remain in contact, regarding a donation of images to Wikimedia Commons.
