Grants talk:IEG/Listing editor for Wikivoyage
Can we get this from Wikitravel?
editHi James, just looking at this proposal, " a listing editor existed on WT that allowed inexperienced users", I'd imagine this was either an installed extension or maybe a gadget. Does this still exist on Wikitravel to see if we can just adapt the code under an appropriate license? Thehelpfulone 01:37, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
- In addition, per the criteria for eligible projects, "Grantees are not awarded special access to WMF Engineering and Product Development or other non-grantmaking staff time.", so if we could get this code from Wikitravel that would be good. Thehelpfulone 02:07, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for your message, Thehelpfulone. We thought we might not be able to apply for manpower, but it was worth a shot. Our project is bursting at the seams with ideas, but the WMF is largely unable to offer us technically support and feature implementation at this time. I checked Special:Version at Wikitravel [1], but was unable to find the extension. Maybe some more experienced users could comment on how it was implemented. - Looking at the source code of their pages, they appear to use [2] and [3]. I don't know if there are other unknown MediaWiki extensions or something, nor if these are available under a free license, though. --whym (talk) 12:42, 16 February 2013 (UTC)

Ineligible for IEGrant
editHi guys,
Confirming what TheHelpfulOne says, as long as your proposal includes a request for WMF staff time (particularly engineering), it will be ineligible. If you can find a volunteer with coding skills and admin permissions who can create what you want as a gadget rather than an extension, and they want to join your project as a participant, then you might having something doable as a grant. I'm marking this ineligible for now, but if/when you've got an updated plan, you would be welcome to resubmit for future rounds -- you'll just need to update the status= to PROPOSED again. Cheers!
