Africa Portal, WikiAfrica and Invisible Borders: The Trans-African Project

edit

Hi Fanuel Lewis Oweke, I just saw your proposal. On Africa Portal you find links to projects and people working in Africa or on projects related to Africa, and I am not sure you know that there is also a project called WikiAfrica, news on http://www.wikiafrica.net. The idea of informing communities in Africa makes sense, but I am not sure traveling and working with radios can produce an active engagement. But why not trying: I was thinking that maybe it can be relevant to link with the people of "Invisible Borders: The Trans-African Project"; it is a cool and existing project and I have the impression it might have contact points with what you would like to do. Maybe joining the group of Invisible Borders by focusing on Wikipedia? facilitating the upload of images on Wikimedia Commons and implementing meetings with radio stations? It would be a lighter project and maybe the support could be directed to your participation as wikipedian to this road trip. --iopensa (talk) 22:52, 30 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Ineligible for an IEG

edit

Thank you for submitting this idea, Fanuel Lewis Oweke. However, it does not appear to meet the eligibility criteria for an Individual Engagement Grant project - namely, that IEG projects should improve Wikimedia's existing websites, rather than starting new websites for other purposes. So, I've marked the status as ineligible in its current state. We encourage you to consider iopensa's suggestions for alternate ways of furthering community engagement in Africa. Taking advantage of existing projects may be a good starting point to achieve your objectives. If you have an idea in the future that focuses on improving a Wikimedia project, you'd be welcome to submit something in a future round. Thanks again for participating! -- Jtud (WMF) (talk) 23:01, 2 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
